Download Festival - 2015 Live Review

One of Europe's best rock and metal festivals returned to its home at Donnington Park last weekend and it's safe to say, once again, that Download smashed it. With a range of bands from Kiss, Motley Crue, Billy Idol, Rise Against, Parkway Drive, We Are Harlot and more all booked to play, there was something for everyone at the festival, and that was one of the most noticeable highlights.

Download Festival 2015 Review

Despite the torrential rain pouring down during Slipknot's set, they pulled off one of the best shows to date on Friday and set an extremely high standard for the rest of the headliners. Playing hits like 'Psychosocial', 'Devil In I', 'Spit It Out' and 'Custer', and attempting to break the Download record for the most amount of people all jumping up at the same time they certainly went all out.

Muse were considered to be a controversial band to have booked, but all concerns were quickly dashed as soon as they hit the stage on Saturday. Matt Bellamy's vocal abilities were on top form as the band belted out tracks from their newly released album 'Drones' as well as well-known hits like 'Supermassive Black Hole' and 'Plug In Baby'. Even those who were indifferent or somewhat disliked Muse couldn't deny that they put on the show of a lifetime complete with dancing lights, pyrotechnics, confetti and inflatable balls.

Muse Bassist Chris Wolstenholme Says Electronic-Based Music Was Too Difficult To Play Live

Muse

Muse bassist Chris Wolstenholme has revealed the reason behind the recent musical reversion in the group’s new album Drones: the electronic-based music they had been making beforehand was “becoming more and more difficult to play live.”

In a new interview with Spotify, the 36 year old musician admitted that the question of how to translate the group’s records into the live setting – where Muse are unbelievably powerful – was one of the key factors that stopped them going further down the path of electronic experimentalism that had defined their two previous albums The Resistance (2009) and The 2nd Law (2012).

Muse Land Their Fifth Consecutive Number One With 'Drones'

Muse

Muse have flown to number one yet again with their seventh album 'Drones', which has managed to rake in a glorious 73,000 sales. With epic singles like US Alternative Chart topper 'Dead Inside', we can hardly say we're surprised with the news.

Muse promoMuse go straight to number one in the UK

The ultra-atmospheric trio have earned themselves their fifth UK number one album in a row, knocking Florence + The Machine's newest release 'How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful' to number two after only one week on top. And not only that, 'Drones' marks Muse's very first chart topping album in the US, so champagne is definitely in order.

Muse - Drones Album Review

Whilst they remain undoubtedly one of rock's premier outfits, for some Muse hit something of a plateau with 'The 2nd Law', their sixth record released in 2012. There has been talk of a back to basics approach for album seven, 'Drones', which will see the trio kick off with many dates on the festival circuit before presumably returning to their own brilliantly ambitious headline shows.

Muse - Drones Album Review

Instead of opening with an in-your-face number, 'Dead Inside' is actually a brooding number built around the rhythm section of the band, with Matt Bellamy sounding as impassioned as he ever has.'Psycho' moves from grinding riffs into howling guitar work, and is sure to please those who enjoy a big chorus, while the endearing 'Mercy' is how you would expect Coldplay to sound if they went into heavier territory. For those who enjoy imitating Bellamy's guitar playing, 'Reapers' will surely find favour with some nimble work both in the hook and solo, while 'The Handler' is brutally crushing alt-rock. 'Defector' falls along similar lines while utilising a group vocal style that Queen were so brilliant at, while 'Revolt' blasts our power chords before completely changing tempo with a chorus that actually has a great deal of pop to it. No strangers to orchestral sounds, the trio turn to this on 'Aftermath', a beautiful track, before unleashing 'The Globalist'. A ten minute progressive monster, it wonderfully encompasses the different sides to Muse and for any other band would be a career-defining magnum opus.

What has been described as a concept album - the journey of a lost human being recruited and controlled - should probably end at this point, but the finale is a serene a cappella piece. Whilst the narrative is clear, particularly in the first part of the record, there are also times where the emotion is more personal - think of someone describing the situation of a friend, when it is clear they are talking of themselves. Sonically there is much more focus on guitars and the rhythm section, though of course synthesised components are not done away with altogether, but this record will dispel any suspicion that the Teignmouth outfit have lost their mojo. Instead it is an undeniable reinforcement that these are three of the most talented musicians in popular music and that, it would seem, they can make brilliant music at will.

Coachella Festival is nearly here, bringing with it one hell of a weekend chock full of great food, exciting entertainment and, most importantly, amazing music.

Arguably California's most eagerly anticipated event of the year, Coachella settles at the Empire Polo Club in Indio once again for the fifteenth year running between April 11th and 13th on the first weekend and April 18th and 20th on the second. It's not unheard of that a music festival was so good they had to hold it twice, but as of 2012 it has become a no-brainer for Coachella. In a nutshell, it is basically a big playground for grown-ups - though of course it is a family friendly event - featuring activities such as the 3 Legged Race, the Beauty Bar, the art studios, dodgeball and the almighty Pie Eating Contest, all while you're munching on a variety of cuisine from around the state and rocking out to some of the best bands you will ever hear.

Adly Syairi Ramly loves Lego and he also has pretty good taste in music too. After collecting Lego since 2011 he came up with the fantastic idea of combining his two major passions as the results are pretty epic. Nothing else was used to create the models, it’s just simple Lego figures given a rock and roll makeover. The pictures were taken on an iPhone 5 with no desktop editing. Pretty impressive indeed.

Muse - Isolated System WWZ Footage

Devon band Muse performed their track 'Isolated System' live at Horse guards Parade in London on June 2nd 2013 following the world premiere of 'World War Z'. The track is taken from their chart-topping sixth album 'The 2nd Law' which came out in 2012.

'Isolated System' was used as the main soundtrack to book-to-film zombie flick 'World War Z' and the live recording was used with a new trailer-type montage featuring clips from the movie. The video features an ominous digital countdown, brief glimpses of panic and chaos in different parts of the globe and clips of protagonist Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) and his family looking contented as they prepare for a day out, before disaster strikes while they are stuck in a traffic jam in New York as hoards of people run for their lives in the opposite direction. The song is a completely instrumental chiming echo with a gradual, crescendo-like layering of various instruments. As they had no doubt intended, it evokes such feelings of ill-omens and hopelessness that it is only fitting to be attached to an end-of-the-world situation.

As Brad Pitt revealed at the 'World War Z' premiere, the movie's producers had in fact been searching for a track reminiscent of Mike Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells' which is most famous for becoming the theme to 'The Exorcist'. Coincidentally, Matthew Bellamy of Muse had in fact been reading the 2006 Max Brooks novel of 'World War Z' during the recording of the album.

Brad Pitt Buys Angelina Jolie 'Agent Provocateur' Underwear For 38th Birthday

Brad Pitt Angelina Jolie Muse

Brad Pitt really knows how to treat his missus Angelina Jolie doesn't he? The World War Z star snapped up $3,000 worth of Agent Provocateur underwear for her 38th birthday this week. According to The Sun newspaper, Brad handed over the gifts while the couple were in Paris for the premiere of his new action-horror movie.

"Since Angie has recovered from the surgery her and Brad have been acting like a couple of lovestruck teenagers. They can't keep their hands off each other," said a source close to the couple, "It was her birthday on Tuesday and as well as the underwear, Brad arranged for the French fashion designer Heidi Slimane, from Saint Laurent in Paris, to sort her out with a whole wardrobe full of new clothes." The insider said Angelina "teared up" after unwrapping the gifts and "can't wait" to marry the Hollywood actor. The couple are expected to tie the knot at some point this summer.

It's been a rough couple of months for Angelina, who underwent a double mastectomy to reduce the risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer. After the successful surgery, Angie now has just a 5% chance of breast cancer.
