Dappy, the British rapper and frontman of R&B group N-Dubz, was arrested on Saturday (8th October 2011) and held on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend Kaye Vassell. While his cousin and band mate Tulisa Contostavlos was appearing on the first X Factor live show, Dappy was answering the Metropolitan Police's questions after being suspected of assault, reports the UK's Daily Mirror.
The singer was held for 12 hours before being released without charge. Police were initially called to "an address in W6' at around 9pm on Saturday after reports that a woman had been assaulted. Authorities later confirmed officers had "arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of common assault". A met spokesman explained, "The 21-year-old victim did not require hospital treatment. No further action will be taken". Shortly after the arrest, Dappy's girlfriend Kate denied the accusations, tweeting, "Me and Dappy are Very Happy and He Would Never Lay a Finger on Me.Dappys not in jail . Papers Actually Make me Sick". The singer echoed the statement following his release, tweeting, "All I Have to Say is, I Love Kaye the Mother of my Kids and My 2 Beautiful Boys.We are a Unit. Nothing Comes Between Family".
As N-Dubz are on hiatus, Dappy is currently readying his debut solo album 'No Regrets', scheduled to hit shelves in April 2012.
