Natalie Portman has come in for criticism from politician Mike Huckabee for being pregnant.
Natalie Portman, the American actress who scooped the Academy Award for 'Best Actress' at Sunday's ceremony (27th February 2011) has been blasted by Mike Huckabee for 'glorifying' the idea of pregnancy, reports CNN.Portman, who is expecting her first child with choreographer boyfriend Benjamin Millepied, is presenting a distorted image of pregnancy, according to Huckabee. Speaking on Michael Medved's radio show, the Republican politician criticised Portman for being pregnant and unmarried, saying, "One of the things that's troubling is that people see a Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of, 'Hey look, you know, we're having children, we're not married, but we're having these children,' and they're doing just fine. But there aren't really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie", adding, "And that's the story that we're not seeing, and it's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out of children wedlock". The 55-year-old continued his rant, noting that "not everybody hires nannies, and caretakers, and nurses" and adding that most single mothers are "very poor" and "uneducated".
Natalie Portman met boyfriend Millepied on the set of her movie 'Black Swan' in 2009. The pair began dating later that year and on 27th December 2010 they announced their engagement and Portman's pregnancy. They are scheduled to marry in the summer of 2011.
