Rock veterans Neil Young and Willie Nelson are to play a concert in protest against the controversial Keystone Xl pipeline project.

The pair will perform on a stage in a Nebraska cornfield earmarked for the proposal to show their opposition to the plans for an underground pipe carrying oil the length of the U.S. from Canada.

Critics of the scheme argue the pipeline is a danger to the environment and could pollute the country's water supply.

Young and Nelson are due to perform at the field on a farm near Neligh, Nebraska on 27 September (14).
