This week, Marvel's 'The Punisher' finally hit Netflix after months of hype, teasers and the promise of one of the deadliest and most ambitious stories to ever come to Marvel's television properties. Jon Bernthal returned in the titular role, aka Frank Castle, with an all-star cast comprised both of new faces and those who have already debuted in various other Netflix/Marvel original series.

Following the revenge he took on those who were responsible for the deaths of his loved ones, Castle is known on the streets of New York as The Punisher, and it doesn't take long for him to become embroiled in yet another major case. Soon realising that what he's caught up in is something that extends much further than just the criminal underground of his home city, he must work harder than ever before if he's to stop one of the world's most violent threats from taking ultimate control.

So far, reviews have been a little scattered. Many critics like what's on offer, but think the season is a little too long, whilst others think it fails to hit the mark on a number of levels. Of course, it's up to each individual viewer to decide for themselves when they indulge in the Netflix binge.

Asked by EW if he'd heard anything in regards to a second season, Lightfoot replied: "No, I genuinely don’t know how the Netflix system works with making those calls, and I assume once they do [make a call] they’ll tell Marvel and Marvel will tell me and we’ll jump back to it. But I’m very excited to do so. I think we left both Frank and Billy in places where there are so many ways to jump off from if that second season comes. We can do anything with them, in truth."

There are plenty of avenues writers could go down if a second season of 'The Punisher' was ordered, but without anything been officially confirmed just yet, it's something we likely won't be hearing anything about for some time.
