Musicians, Comedians And Boston Natives Rocked TD Garden During Boston Strong Benefit

Aerosmith New Kids On The Block Boston James Taylor

Despite being put together in mere weeks, the Boston Strong concert, which took place last night at Boston’s TD Garden, was a complete success. Headlined by acts like Aerosmith (who flew in from Singapore for the occasion,) J. Geils and James Taylor, the gig had enough energy and momentum to ring as a celebration of Boston’s spirit, not a lament of the bombing, which rocked the city in April. Rolling Stone recapped the gig.

The show began, appropriately, with guitarist Tom Scholtz’s rendition of the Star Spangled Banner and continued with acts like Aerosmith, New Kids On The Block, blue-collar rockers J. Geils Band ripping through enthusiastic, high energy sets, interrupted by the occasional teary-eyed moment, where appropriate. Naturally, powerhouse rockers Boston made an appearance, in keeping with the night’s theme of Bostonians helping out and performing for other Bostonians.

It was definitely a celebration of Boston’s spirit and culture, with comedian as comedian Steve Sweeney, a local legend, said before introducing the Geils Band, when people ask, "How you doin'?," locals are liable to reply, "Mind your own goddamn business, you nosy bastard!"

Aerosmith New Kids On The Block

Don Law, President of Live Nation New England has announced that the concert promoters will be hosting a charity gig for the victims of the Boston bombing and the lineup for the benefit is already growing fast. With less than a month left until the show on May 30th, acts like Aerosmith, New Kids On The Block, Jason Aldean, James Taylor and Jimmy Buffet have all signed on to perform at the charity event. The funds raised from the concert will go to the One Fund, benefiting the survivors and the families of those who died in the explosions on April 15.

Other confirmed acts include Jason Aldean, Boston, Extreme, Godsmack, The J. Geils Band, Carole King and New Kids on the Block. Boston native Donnie Wahlberg, of New Kids On The Block fame, commented that as a Boston Native, he was proud to do his part for the city’s recovery from the tragedy. Additional performers might be announced in the coming weeks, but the lineup for the benefit is looking pretty impressive as is. The benefit will also feature some non-musical bits, courtesy of comedians like Dane Cook and Steven Wright. The event will be held at Boston’s TD Garden and tickets will go on sale this coming Monday (May 6), ranging from $35 to $285.

Commotion over Beyonce's pre-recorded inauguration performance, a very heart warming clip of Steve Harvey, Shakira becomes a Madre and more!

In Defence Of Bey: Music fans recoiled with indignation this week after it was speculated Beyonce had the audacity to pre-record a live performance for President Obama's inauguration in Washington D.C. We'd point you towards the technical difficulties of singing to 800,000 on the sizeable Capitol Hill, and can think of far worse lip-syncing flubs.

Aww, Steve: YouTube fizzed into action this week with a very special video of everyone's favourite TV host Steve Harvey. The Family Feud star was surprised by an old friend, leading him to choke back the tears. We won't say too much, just check it out!

Five Of The Worst: Beyonce For Super Bowl 2013; She'll Surely Be Better Than This Lot?

So it is Beyonce's turn to lead out the fun and games at the famous Super Bowl half-time show. Quite frankly it's been a long time coming; one of the premiere pop stars of the past decade and more, the former Destiny's Child's star power has been calling out for her to get the spot at some point. However, let's not get ahead of ourselves and assume that just because she is who she is, she's going to deliver a stunning fifteen minutes. Plenty of big names have been known to fall; here are some of, what we reckon to be the worst half-time shows in Super Bowl history.

Madonna, M.I.A, Nicki Minaj, 2012

The fact that everyone was talking about M.I.A having the audacity to stick her finger up at television cameras tells you just how boring this half-time show actually was. A creaking Madonna did what she's ended up doing on most of her shows this year and sent her crowd into a stupor, with garish and brash visuals and costume not making up for an utter formulaic performance from the (former?) Queen of Pop. She should be thanking M.I.A for giving us a reason to remember it to be honest.
