Actress Daniele Watts has accused officers at the Los Angeles Police Department of brutality and racism after an incident on Thursday (11Sep14).

The Django Unchained star and her celebrity chef husband Brian James Lucas were kissing in a car in the San Fernando Valley, when they were approached by cops after a resident called police to the scene, according to Tmz.com.

Lucas claims they believed Watts was a prostitute and asked the couple for identification. Angry Watts refused and began walking away, but she was apprehended, handcuffed and taken back to the scene in a police car.

In a message on Facebook.com, she writes, "Today I was handcuffed and detained by 2 police officers from the Studio City Police Department after refusing to agree that I had done something wrong by showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place. When the officer arrived, I was standing on the sidewalk by a tree.

"I was talking to my father on my cell phone. I knew that I had done nothing wrong, that I wasn't harming anyone, so I walked away. A few minutes later, I was still talking to my dad when 2 different police officers accosted me and forced me into handcuffs..."

Watts claims the handcuffs were tight and caused her wrists to bleed.

After she produced her identification she was let go, but her husband claims they have hired a lawyer and plan to file a formal complaint against the officers.
