Elizabeth Norment, the American actress who played Nancy Kaufberger, the secretary to Kevin Spacey's character in Netflix political drama 'House of Cards', has died aged 61. Norment's character worked for the scheming politician Frank Underwood -congressman for South Carolina who became President of the United States.

She died in New York on October 13 at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, her sister confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter. 

Spacey paid tribute on Twitter, writing: "RIP Elizabeth Norment. We all loved her and she leaves a void in all of us here at HoC's."

"She was a talented actress, a warm soul and a good friend to us all."

"Elizabeth Norment was a talented actress with a beautiful spirit who touched the entire House of Cards family," execs at MRC, the production company behind House of Cards, added.

As well as House of Cards - which returns for season 3 in 2015 - Norment had roles on Law & Order, ER, Mad About You and Party of Five. She also appeared in numerous movies, including The Woman in Red, Runaway and Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. 

She is survived by her mother Nancy, her sisters Sarah, Martha and Kate, her brother Clarence, and six nieces and nephews.

House of Cards season 3 will be directed in-part by the Oscar-nominated Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Holland. It is expected for release in full on Netflix in February.
