Irish actress Gabrielle Reidy has died at the age of 54.

She passed away at her London home after being diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year (14), according to a report.

Reidy was known for her work at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, Ireland having started her career there in 1971 as a child actress. She was also known for playing alongside Scarlett Johansson in drama The Girl with a Pearl Earring.

On Monday (13Oct14) the audience at the Abbey Theatre gave a standing ovation in Reidy' memory, and the theatre's director MAC Conghail said, "On behalf of everyone associated with the Abbey Theatre, I would like to express a heartfelt sadness on the terrible and untimely death of Irish actress Gabrielle Reidy. We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to her family and to her partner Gary. It is a terrible loss to the acting community that Gabrielle Reidy has died so young."
