On the anniversary of Monteith's death, Lea Michele and his co-stars shared their tributes on Twitter.
The anniversary of Cory Monteith’s death has been a trying time for his loved ones. After his father gave an interview talking about his estranged son, Monteith’s former girlfriend Lea Michele, took to Twitter for her own tribute. Michele, who acted opposite Monteith on Fox’s musical comedy Glee, posted a photo of her real life and on-screen partner, adding: “We hold you in our hearts today, and every day we remember your smile. We will love you and miss you always.”
Following Monteith's death, Lea Michele took some time, before returning to work, filming a new season and releasing her debut record and first book.
Monteith was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room on July 13, 2013. His death added new fuel to the treatment versus persecution debate for drug addicts. Monteith, who had had a turbulent childhood, had previously admitted to struggling with drug abuse in his teenage years. His death threw his friends and co-stars in confusion and resulted in a hiatus for Glee. The show later returned with a special tribute episode for Monteith, so that viewers could have a proper fairwell with the actor and his character. In his own way of commemorating Cory’s life, showrunner Ryan Murphy shared a screencap from the episode over the weekend.
