The dark new action thriller sees Mary Shelley's creation brought into a modern era.
It's easy to tell that upcoming action movie I, Frankenstein has been made by the same producers as Underworld. Even from the dark trailer we get the same sense of foreboding gloom and supernatural horror.
I, Frankenstein Evokes The Darkness Of The Underworld Movies.
The movie, released in early 2014, sees Aaron Eckert as the titular ageless creature who finds himself plonked into the middle of modern society after hiding out in the North Pole for the nearly the last 200 years, mourning the death of his creator, Dr. Frankenstein.
Rather than settle into a 21st century iPads and Starbucks way of life, Frankenstein realises that he is stronger than any other life form on Earth and feels a duty to protect the human race he was born into all that time ago. However, he finds himself at the centre of a deadly battle between two different immortal forces who both want to take over the Earth.
Watch The #I, Frankenstein' Trailer:
Needless to say, there's plenty of fighting with CGI demons, fire and some odd-looking winged gargoyles, who don't look very happy. Bill Nighy makes an appearance in the trailer hissing "you cannot save the humans; nothing can stop their demise," leading us to question whether the British actor will be a goodie or a baddie this time.
Aaron Eckert Plays A Man Like No Other.
Set against a backdrop of a modern city, the movie looks like it will be filled with explosions and as many cars, trains and buildings getting smashed up as possible. Yvonne Strahovski will play the main love interest and we hear her say the philosophical line "you're only a monster if you behave like one" in the trailer.
Whilst the new movie will be based on Mary Shelley's original 1818 gothic novel, writer and director Stuart Beattie (Australia, 30 Days of Night) will bring the twisted legend to the attention of modern, action-loving generations. The storyline will be based on an as-yet unpublished graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux.
I, Frankenstein will be released in the UK and USA from the 24 January 2014.
