J.K. Rowling is one of those magical sort of people who will always stand up to a bully and she’s frequently made a point of using social media as a tool to stop cyber bullies from continuing to spread hate. Rowling, who is a long time fan and friend of Williams, tweeted her support and congratulations for the tennis player after she won Wimbledon. ‘What an athlete, what a role model, what a woman!’ Rowling wrote on Saturday (11th July).
A Twitter user responded to Rowling’s tweet, writing ‘ironic then that main reason for her success is that she is built like a man’. Rowling wasn’t having any of this nonsense and immediately hit back at the user.
‘@diegtristan8 "she is built like a man". Yeah, my husband looks just like this in a dress. You're an idiot,’ Rowling wrote.
Rowling also included two pictures of Williams looking strong, feminine and pretty fabulous.
The Harry Potter author is a huge fan of Williams and shared her support for the tennis player throughout the day. Rowling justified her decision to support Williams, writing ‘you don't meet many super-talented people nicer than she is.’ She also tweeted a picture of herself with Williams at Wimbledon.
Fortunately, the unpleasant Twitter user was in the minority and the majority of high-profile users highly praised and congratulated Williams. These included Hilary Clinton, actress Laverne Cox and tennis player Caroline Wozniacki.
