The twins will not be reprising their role as Michelle Tanner for the Netflix reboot.
Mary Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen will not be a part of the upcoming ‘Full House’ reboot, ‘Fuller House’ on Netflix, it has been confirmed. The twins began their acting careers on the series, jointly playing the role of Michelle Tanner from 1987 to 1995. But the 28 year old twins have shied away from acting in recent years, preferring to focus on their careers as fashion designers.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen shared the role of Michelle Tanner in the sitcom.
In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, the series’ executive producer Robert L. Boyett said, “Although Ashley and Mary-Kate will not be a part of 'Fuller House', I know how much Full House has meant to them and they are still very much considered family.”
"It has been exciting to see how they have built their professional careers, and I support their choice to focus on their fashion brands and various business endeavours. I appreciate their support and good wishes towards 'Fuller House'.”
John Stamos who played the twins' TV uncle Jessie took to Twitter on Friday night to confirm the news and share his disappointment. The actor tweeted the hashtag heartbroken, before telling fans, “I understand they're in a different place and I wish them the best. I promise you will not be disappointed with our reunion and spin off!!”
Rubbishing any reports that Mary-Kate and Ashley’s absence may have been to do with money, Stamos then wrote on his Facebook page, “Just so you reporters know - this is not a money gig for any of us- quite the opposite.”
“We want to give the fans what they deserve for supporting us for so many years- we all just want to have fun - do it in a classy way on Netflix and have a good time- sad that a few don't share the rest of the cast's opinion - I can only wish them the best."
Along with Stamos, original cast members Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, Andrea Barber and Dave Coulier have all signed on to return, while Bob Saget and Lori Loughliin are in talks with producers. Stamos will also be executive producing the series, which is scheduled to hit Netflix next year.
