Rapper Nicky Da B has died, aged 24.

The star, from New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away from a "brief illness" on Tuesday (02Sept14), but the exact cause of his death has yet to be revealed.

Nicky Da B's managers released a statement confirming his death, which reads: "It is with heaviness in our hearts today that we confirm the passing of Nicky Da B. Nicky was a beautiful soul and we will always be grateful for his magnetic personality and loving spirit.

"We were inspired by his talent as much as his tireless optimism, compassion and humility. Our condolences go out to his family at this time."

Nicky Da B, real name Nickesse Toney, was best known for his collaboration with music producer Diplo's 2012 modern dance hit Express Yourself.

Diplo took to Twitter.com to share his condolences for his friend and wrote, "He was not only an important figure for New Orleans... Bounce music... He was a good friend and gave me one of my defining songs.

"He was an amazing writer and had one of a kind voice... We working on an album for mad decent... Rest in peace @NickyDaB."
