As Strictly Come Dancing saunters onto our screens for everyone’s favourite Christmas Day special, one of the dancers has suggested the popular BBC competition should open its doors wider than it currently does.

Gorgeous Gleb Savchenko - who was partnered with the equally dazzling Anita Rani during this season - has said the show should "embrace diversity" and introduce same sex couples.

The 32-year-old Russian dancer - who made the semi-final with his Countryfile presenter partner - said that dance is for everyone and believes the Saturday night ratings hit should open its doors to other ideas.

It seems for now, however, that the show will not be diversifying into that area after producers released a statement explaining it would remain with mixed-sex couples.

Despite this disappointment for Gleb, fans will still no doubt watch the Christmas special in their droves at 6:15pm today.

The celebrities battling it out for the famous Silver Star trophy are past winners Abbey Clancy, Harry Judd and Thomas Chambers with contestant Alison Hammond, former runner up Lisa Snowdon and Comic Relief Strictly winner Cassidy Little.

Of course, the delectable judges will also be back to give their professional opinions on those taking part, although it’s down to the audience to decide the eventual winner - along with some help from those shouting at their TVs from home!
