One of the greatest showbiz couples of the last century is due to make a stylish and much anticipated return to TV after a lifetime of films, musicals and showbiz-style parties. The fabulous Miss Piggy and her handsome green fella, Kermit the Frog, are returning to ABC with the rest of The Muppets gang for a new documentary show aimed at adults.

The US network has commissioned the programme as part of a new prime time line-up that also includes new series for US drama Scandal and audience favourite Grey’s Anatomy.

This latest outing for The Muppets, which includes some of television’s most beloved characters including Fozzie Bear and Gonzo, will chart the everyday travails of the gang and has been developed by Big Bang Theory producer, Bill Prady.

It has been reported by Entertainment Weekly that a pilot of the show received a standing ovation at an ABC screening last month.

The Muppets debuted in the 1950s as a creation of master puppeteer Jim Henson. The loveable motley crew were an instant hit and graduated through the ranks of Sesame Street and variety shows to secure their own show, The Muppets Show, in the 1970s before appearing in a number of films in the 1980s and 1990s

They took a brief break before successfully returning in The Muppets film in 2011 and The Muppets Most Wanted in 2014.
