Of all the award shows, Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards is most certainly the messiest. This year Nick Jonas was our master of ceremonies, as the singer and actor presided over a night of slime, orange blimps and a moving appearance by Angelina Jolie.

Host Nick Jonas opened the show, performing his songs ‘Chains’ and ‘Jealous’, before daring to poke fun at Zayn Malik’s exit from One Direction. Acknowledging how hard a week it had been for the group's legion of teenage fans as ‘One Direction became Two Direction’, Jonas asked “What's next, Fourth Harmony? Three Seconds of Summer? The Jonas Brother?”

But on to the awards and The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s Emma Stone was first in line for the blimp, taking home the award for Favourite Movie Actress. Liam Hemsworth was named Favourite Male Action Star for his role in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1, while his co-star Jennifer Lawrence picked up the Favourite Female Action Star gong, but was not in attendance to collect the honour.

Ben Stiller was named Favourite Movie Actor, while Big Hero 6 took home the award for Favourite Animated Movie. Angelina Jolie collected the Favourite Villain award for her performance in Maleficent, delivering an inspiring speech where she told the young audience “Be yourself. And when someone tells you that you are different just smile and hold your head up, and be proud.”

But it wouldn't be the Kids’ Choice Awards without plenty and plenty of slime, starting with ‘Modern Family’ cast members Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould, and Rico Rodriguez who all fell victim to the green goo after collecting the award for Favourite Family TV Show.

Adam Sandler fired some slime on his Pixel co-star Josh Gad, courtesy of an alien gun aimed right at the actor’s face. Not even host Nick Jonas was safe, as slime was dropped on him from the big orange blimp in the sky, as well as the cannons around the stage when he accepted his award for Favourite Male Singer, presented by Jennifer Lopez.

Then it was the turn of 5 Seconds of Summer who closed out the show with what has to be the messiest performance of all time. As some stars dried themselves off, the boyband delivered a poptastic cover of ‘What I Like About You’, while being completely soaked in the green slime!
