The comedy series will film its pilot episode in the Anaconda hitmaker's adopted hometown of Queens, New York later this year (15) and it will centre on Minaj's childhood and her rise to stardom.

Announcing the project, Minaj says, "This is one of the more unique adventures I've ever embarked on.

"I couldn't be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special."

The 32 year old made her feature film debut as the voice of Steffie in 2012's Ice Age: Continental Drift. She went on to appear in The Other Woman opposite Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann.
