Nicki Minaj's old high school has reportedly declined the 'Anaconda' singer's offer to speak to students. Minaj had initially intended on divulging how she rose to fame and negotiated her way into the music business at her alma mater.

Minaj took to Twitter to express her frustration claiming there was "no need for me to inspire" the current students at LaGuardia High School in Manhattan. Minaj wrote on Thursday "I wanted to go back to my HS and speak to the students but the new principal declined. No need for me to inspire them, I guess."

The 31-year-old further claimed she "wasn't good enough" and that she had been "really looking forward to it." Minaj explained how she was simply grateful to the school which "changed my life" and wanted to "pay it forward to students there now."

Her comments caused controversy and her 18 million followers were quick to show their support. Of course sycophancy was the order of the day and Minaj retweeted a number of their comments. A number of followers claimed Minaj was the reason they attended school and had continued on to higher education whilst others said, as a "successful woman", she would serve as an inspiration. For example, one follower wrote "It sinks into a young mind when you're fave artist motivates you to do well rather than a parent who can be seen as "nagging"".

However, Minaj failed to tell the whole story and the NY Daily News revealed why the principal had declined her offer. Apparently Minaj's appearance at the school would be filmed for MTV and would involve a film crew. Thus, an education official told the newspaper, it would have interfered with classes. The official further explained how MTV had requested filming to take place during the day and during a very narrow time window.

Apparently the school had attempted to create the opportunity but it simply wasn't viable. In a statement the official said "We suggested alternative times for the singer [Minaj] to appear at the school, such as a weekend date. She and declined because of her tight schedule."
