Nicki Minaj is known for being a brash, confident hip-hop artist, who has never revealed much of her personal life, but this all changed when the rapper dropped 'Bed of Lies, her fourth single off her upcoming new album, 'The Pinkprint,' on Saturday night (Nov 15th).

Minaj gets very personal in 'Bed of Lies'

Minaj's newest song, featuring Skylar Grey, depicts a story of betrayal by one of the 31-year-old star's former lovers who used her fame and fortune for himself. "You could never make eye contact / Everything you got was based off of my contacts," she raps.

While hosting the MTV European Music Awards last week, Minaj gave fans a live preview of the song, and after the performance Grey opened up to Billboard about the origins of their collaboration.

"The song started being written almost a year ago and then [Minaj] picked it up and wrote her verses on it. Luckily, she liked the demo of it enough to keep me on the song," she said. "She kind of poured her heart out on the verses. I personally think as a fan it's a nice contrast to her other singles on the record. You get to see another side of her."

Grey added, "When I heard that she was taking the song I was surprised because it's not a typical kind of song for her ... She seemed to take it to a very personal place."

Minaj repeated this outlook in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. "I don't think any of these songs could have been on my last album," she said. "I've grown as a writer. I'm braver in terms of speaking about things I didn't feel comfortable sharing two years ago."

'The Pinkprint,' Minaj's third album, is due out on December 15th.
