A police spokesperson confirmed the argument had begun inside the bar but the attack had occurred outside the bar. "We believe that both of the victims, as well as the perpetrator, were all inside of this bar and that's when an argument started," the spokesperson told NBC. It is also believed the perpetrator, aged 30, is still at large and may have been a recently fired employee of the bar.

The two victims were not named by police but Minaj later tweeted that they were members of her road team. Rapper Minaj explained how the two men had been in Philadelphia for two days preparing for her upcoming Pinkprint Tour. "Two members of my team were stabbed last night in Philly. One was killed. They had only been there for two days rehearsing for the tour," Minaj wrote on Wednesday. The 32-year-old rapper later posted a photograph of the two men on Instagram. Minaj sent her condolences to Pickett's family and claimed the incident was "another senseless act of violence that took the life of a great guy."

Rihanna has also expressed her grief at the loss of Pickett. Pickett had previously worked with Rihanna whilst on tour, according to reports in The Mail. "Can't believe this is true! One of the nicest, coolest, funniest people I've ever met and toured with! We had so much fun together!!! Sad to lose a beautiful spirit like yours," Rihanna wrote on Instagram.
