Laverne Cox, the trans gender actress best known for her role as Sophia in Orange Is the New Black, posed naked for Allure in a series of beautiful photographs. 30-year-old Cox explained her decision to pose in the nude and joked about her casual preparation for the shoot even, contrary to the advice of friends, enjoying a dinner of mac and cheese rather than partaking of recommended juices the night before.

No, no one has cast a spell on us; no headless horseman has threatened us to say this. If you're a fan of the show and have been following the first season then you'll just get it. Sleepy Hollow, recently renewed for a second season, rather than flounder on the pile of other dodgy TV remakes, has provided some top class watching this year and the fans have responded in their droves to cement the "breakout hit of the fall season."

Hell, even the top producer was floored by the response: "Frankly, I'm stunned and elated," executive producer Alex Kurtzman tells TVGuide.com. "Our jaws were on the floor. Sleepy Hollow - a popular, tried-and-tested story - is now on TV.
Fox's new drama Sleepy Hollow appears to have come out of nowhere. It premiered this week to rave reviews from critics, though can it maintain the quality and eclipse - or at least match - the likes of Game of Thrones?
It stars Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane, who wakes up over 200 years in the future and meets Sleepy Hollow police lieutenant Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie). Together, they attempt to stop the headless horseman who is actually a very famous horseman - the fourth horseman of the Apocalypse from the Book of Revelations to be precise.
Viewers of the first season premiere will already know that Sleepy Hollow tells a very different story to Washington Irving's classic tale.

In Fox's new take on Washington Irving's classic tale, Ichabod Crane awakes after two hundred years to find the town of Sleepy Hollow facing the same headless horseman he encountered centuries before. Crane teams up with police officer Abbie Mills in order to solve, what the police assume are, a series of grisly murders and not the work of one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. From the trailer it appears to be the majority of the humour is based on Crane catching up with two centuries of technological and cultural changes.

Sleepy Hollow has its misses, but it could turn into a successful show, if the writers emphasize the right aspects.
Sleepy Hollow, the brand new show which premiered on Fox last night (Monday at 9PM) is getting mixed reviews thus far. The show, which, as the title suggests, tells the story of Icabod Crane, the familiar Washington Irving, except now he is, well, rather attractive and rather less cowardly. This makes sense, because it’s two hundred years after the Irving stories and the revolutionary war and Icabod is once again faced with the demonic, axe-wielding Headless Horseman.
Mison offers a thoroughly entertaining, if not entirely accurate Icabod Crane adaptation.
The reviewers seem unanimous on this one – it has its charms. Sleepy Hollow is a clever, light retelling of the Icabod Crane story (starring Tom Mison as Crane). Fringe producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have managed to draw out precisely the most entertaining aspects of this premise. Icabod’s insistence that both he and the horseman, who is quick to go on a conspicuous murder spree, are a few centuries old, make for some thoroughly entertaining banter and add another, less serious dimension to this otherwise grisly story.

What could easily have been a sentimental slog is given a spark of intelligent wit by writer-director Helgeland (A Knight's Tale). This is the story of an iconic figure from American sport who had a massive impact on society at large, and Helgeland focusses on the elements we can most readily identify with while quietly stressing how important and, yes, inspirational this story is.
In 1945 post-War America, most states still have segregation laws on the books, and black baseball players are sidelined in their own league. But Brooklyn Dodgers owner Branch Rickey (Ford) wants to break this barrier, and drafts Jackie Robinson (Boseman), making him the first black player in the Major League. Jackie is a determined, principled young man who struggles to hold his tongue in the face of blatant bigotry. But he gets help from Branch and team manager Leo (Meloni), and support from his equally feisty wife Rachel (Beharie). There's also a young black journalist (Holland) who works with him to further both their causes. But it takes Jackie a little longer to win over his teammates.
The film portrays endemic racism as the hideously ugly thing it is: socially accepted cruelty and prejudice. In truth, it was probably a lot worse than shown here, but we certainly don't miss the point. Especially since this kind of abusive language is never heard in today's politically correct climate. And Helgeland also creates complex characters who can't be tagged as heroes or villains, played with cheeky energy by a very strong cast. Boseman oozes charisma in the central role, undercutting what could be a too-saintly characterisation with sensitivity and steeliness. And Ford shines in a rare character role as a cantankerous old guy who simply won't take no for an answer.

Brian Helgeland ("L.A. Confidential") comes the real-life drama "42," starring Chadwick Boseman ("The Express") as Jackie Robinson and Oscar¸ nominee Harrison Ford ("Witness") as Branch Rickey.
In 1947, Branch Rickey controversially made a name for himself when he signed Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers. At the time, this kind of behaviour was unheard of, and both Robinson and Rickey were sure to cause problems for themselves - both on and off the pitch. Racism was rife between player on every team including the Dodgers and Robinson's transition was one of the most courageous of its time.

Brandon (Fassbender) is a successful New Yorker who's happier to see a series of random women than to settle down into a relationship. Although he doesn't stop there, indulging also in porn and prostitutes. So when his wayward sister Sissy (Mulligan) shows up needing a place to stay, it kind of puts a crimp in his style. Especially when she hooks up with his married boss (Dale). Soon he begins to doubt himself, feeling a surge of guilt and shame over his private demons. But getting rid of his urges is another matter.
