The veteran star signed up for jungle-based survival show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2010 but he quit after 12 days of living in a camp in an Australian rainforest.

His decision to leave came hours after he refused to take part in a challenge in which contestants received electric shocks, but he has now revealed he walked off the show because he loathed a fellow competitor, former British Member of Parliament (MP) Lembit Opik.

Nigel tells U.K. TV show Good Morning Britain, "I had a bit of free time and I thought it would be fun... (but) I didn't enjoy it for one single bit. I was so bored... Talking to the others - after a while, what do you talk about?

"And there was a guy, an ex-MP, called Lembit Opik. I nearly killed him! I wanted to kill him, and if I found him again I probably would try to. He drove me mad."

However, Nigel admits he did form an unlikely friendship with one fellow contestant - reformed Happy Mondays wildman Shaun Ryder.

He adds, "But there was a very nice guy there from Happy Mondays, whose name temporarily escapes me. He was great. He said to me at one stage, 'I've taken every drug known to man - except petrol.' He was quite an interesting guy."
