Nigella Lawson Seeks Harmony Through Food On "The Taste"

Nigella Lawson

Nigella Lawson has had a year riddled with conflict. After a very public divorce from art mogul Charles Saatchi, Lawson suffered a minor blow to her reputation, when she was accused of a cocaine addiction during the fraud trial of Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo. The Grillo sisters were cleared of unauthorised spending of £685,000 on household credit card and taxi accounts, but Nigella didn’t escape the trial unscathed, and was forced to admit to her rrecreational drug use.

Nigella LawsonGood Old Nigella!

The festive season is certainly high time for hedonism and over-indulgence: for some this can mean heavy-drinking, retail therapy, binge eating or perhaps the consumption of the less legal kind. However, it’s widely accepted that the best bit of Christmas is the food. Be it an oven-fresh joint stewing in its own juices, mountainous piles of crispy roast potatoes or a Christmas pudding doused in lashings of brandy sauce.

ABC Will Still Air "The Taste" But Can US Audiences Accept Nigella Lawson's Controversial Image?

Nigella Lawson

At the beginning of 2013, with The Taste – a competitive cooking show starring Nigella Lawson – the British “domestic goddess” was set to finally conquer the American market, more than a decade after launching her first effort in 2001. Unfortunately for her, 2013 didn’t turn out to be as successful in terms of her personal life.

Nigella Lawson
The sultry hostess has had some trouble adjusting to the more wholesome demands of the American market.

This month Nigella, on the other side of a widely publicized divorce, was inadvertently accused of drug abuse. And while the allegations probably won’t shake her public profile in the UK, cultivated over decades, American audiences just aren’t as familiar with Nigella’s signature cooking and presenting style. This could prove detrimental to her shaky success on US soil.

Court Hears Of Nigella Lawson's Alleged Drug Problem, Ahead Of Trial

Nigella Lawson

According to documents read out in court this week, Nigella Lawson has been accused of taking drugs by her estranged husband, art dealer Charles Saatchi. His alleged claim was read from an email reportedly sent by the businessman to his wife regarding the two former assistants to the celebrity couple, sisters Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo.

In a forthcoming fraud trail, the defendants are accused of using private credit cards given to them by Saatchi and Lawson to make purchases for themselves, the the pair are alleged to have used their position to defraud thousands of pounds from the couple between 1 January, 2008, and 31 December, 2012. The defendants deny the charges, however Saatchi's claims have not been used to defend the women, but instead to shame his ex-wife and speculate that her drug-taking would result in the Grillos getting off scott free.

Record 70-Second Hearing Marks The End Between Nigella Lawson And Charles Saatchi, Almost

Nigella Lawson Charles Saatchi

Seven weeks after the photos of Charles Saatchi grabbing Nigella Lawson’s throat during an argument first surfaced, the couple has been granted a decree nisi – or, in layman’s terms, a divorce. The decree was granted in record time. The hearing reportedly lasted just 70 seconds on Wednesday morning. The procedure was probably streamlined by the fact that neither Saatchi, nor Lawson were present in the courtroom. Neither were any of their lawyers, according to The Guardian.

However, this isn’t the final step for the turbulent couple. The art collector and the TV chef now have to wait an additional six weeks for the decree absolute to be issued, officially and finally putting an end to the marriage. This week it came to light that it was Nigella and not Saatchi, as he himself had previously claimed, who filed for the divorce.

Nigella Lawson And Charles Saatchi - Are They Divorced Already?

Nigella Lawson Charles Saatchi

Well, aren’t we glad this didn’t drag on; according to The Daily Mail, Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi should be divorced by now, weeks after photos emerged of the advertising mogul clasping the TV Chef’s neck.

The pictures spread like wildfire and talk of the couple’s demise soon followed. Nigella has stayed quiet, though, going about her business – some private, some professional – in a dignified manger.

Earlier this month, sources – friends of Mr Saatchi - told the Daily Mail: “He and Nigella agreed – via Fiona Shackleton – to a speedy divorce. Fiona Shackleton is Nigella’s first cousin and Charles highly respects her. He did not hire a lawyer himself and he has not even spoken to Helen Ward, whom a Sunday paper claimed he has hired.” Anyway, the divorce, if The Mail aren’t making it up, should have happened today at 10:30am, and will take six weeks to become a formal ‘thing’.

Court Hearing Begins (And Ends) Nigella Lawson And Charles Saatchi's Quickie Divorce

The divorce proceedings between Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi are expected to conclude in record time, sparing both parties extended time in court and in the public eye. Lawson, 53, arrived in London at 10.30 yesterday, according to The Daily Mail, and the divorce proceedings were reportedly expected to conclude by the end of the day – “in a matter of minutes,” according to the publication.

Nigella has remained silent about the divorce.

New information states that Lawson is, in fact, the applicant in the case, making Saatchi the defendant. This goes against the art collector’s story, as Saatchi maintained, from the moment the papers were filed, that the divorce had been initiated by him. Lawson, who is known for her various cooking programs, her vibrant media persona and her apparent “carpe diem” attitude to life, has strayed away from public appearances ever since the scandal began more than a month ago, with the publication of a set of controversial photos. The pictures, released by the Sunday People more than a month ago, showed Saatchi and Lawson’s public row, during which Saatchi appeared to grab his wife’s neck.

The TV chef has since hired the law firm Schillings to seek legal compensation from Hillgrove's comments, which speculates that Nigella had the pictures released herself in a publicity stunt, and the firm have apparently demanded an apology from Hillgrove, threatening legal action against him if he keeps the post on his blog. As Hillgrove remains stubborn in the face of these legal threats, Nigella may be forced into a courthouse yet again, as her divorce proceedings from the art dealer Saatchi continue to drag on. Nigella, who recently turned down a big-money US TV deal in favour of a move back home to the UK, has become increasingly more reclusive since she moved out of the Mayfair home she shared with Saatchi and their children.

Snot-ting To Worry About: Charles Saatchi's Bizarre Nigella Explanation

Nigella Lawson Charles Saatchi

Art tycoon Charles Saatchi says he was simply trying to remove 'snot' from his wife Nigella Lawson's nose when he was photographed prodding and twisting the celebrity chef's face while dining at Scott's Restaurant in Mayfair earlier this month. The 70-year-old, who was cautioned by police, was also photographed by the Sunday People with his hand around Lawson's throat.

"Even domestic goddesses sometimes have a bit of snot in their nose. I was trying to fish it out," Saatchi said, according to the Daily Mirror. The photographs appear to suggest a wholly different story, with Nigella appearing visibly upset as Saatchi grabbed her around the neck. In what was described as 27 minutes of madness, Charles seemed riled by something his wife had said or done, leaving her to flee the restaurant and hail a cab in tears. The advertising guru later left and headed back to the home the couple share in Chelsea.

Following the publication of the first set of images, Nigella moved out of their marital home and has been staying in rented accommodation in Mayfair ever since. She is now said to be considering escaping to the U.S for some privacy, having landed a starring role on The Taste - a new culinary reality show with a similar format to The Voice.

Nick Clegg Gets Burnt On Twitter For Lawson-Saatchi Strangling Controversy

Nigella Lawson

When you’re the leader of a party currently involved in a coalition government, there’s scrutiny on everything you say. So when Nick Clegg was asked about the Nigella Lawson-Charles Saatchi controversy, his PR people must have been quaking in their boots.

And that quaking was fully justified, as the The Lib Dem leader managed to fluff it right up, saying it was a “difficult question” because he did not know what had happened. That’s fair enough, really, but this? “I just don’t know, there was this one photograph, I don’t whether that was just a fleeting thing…or…I’m at a loss to be able to put myself in to that position without knowing exactly.” Yeah, this got him in trouble, mainly on Twitter. The End Violence Against Women Coalition tweeted: “Reported response of Nick Clegg about whether he’d have intervened in Saatchi violence is terrible - need leadership from politicians.” Tory MP Dr Sarah Wollaston tweeted: “So just don’t ‘call Clegg’ if your partner likes to grab you by the throat to emphasise a point.” Lib Dem president Tim Farron said: “All of us have got to be careful with our language.

Mr Clegg later insisted in a statement that “I completely condemn all forms of domestic violence” and that “as I said on the radio, my instinct would always be to try and protect the weaker person” He added: “But I was asked a very specific question about how I would have reacted to a specific incident which I did not see.”

Nigella Lawson's Husband Hands Himself Over To Police After Throat-Grab Incident At London Restaurant

Nigella Lawson

Nigella Lawson was left in tears after her husband, the art collector and dealer Charles Saatchi, violently grabbed her by the throat following a heated argument at the couple's favourite London eatery. Photographs from the incident have since been published online by The Mirror.

Lawson and Saatchi were eating at Scott’s in Mayfair, a restaurant the couple regularly visit and sit outside, when the pair began to argue, before Charles absolutely flipped and hurled a number of insults at the TV cook before grabbing her by the throat four times. A powerless and terrified Nigella sat in shock as she endured the advances of her husband of 10-years and nodded intently when she was being yelled at by her husband. The attack came after the pair had finished their meal at the popular seafood establishment, by the end of which Nigella was clearly distressed and on the brink if tears, finally breaking down when she left the eatery.

The appalling attack by 70-year-old Saatchi has placed some weighty question marks over their 10-year marriage, with the argument clearly seen by a number of on-lookers who all claim the attack was a extreme as it sounds. "It was utterly shocking to watch. I have no doubt she was scared. It was horrific really. She was very tearful and was constantly dabbing her eyes," said one on-looker, whilst another went on to tell The Mirror, “Nigella was very, very upset. She had a real look of fear on her face. No man should do that to a woman. She raised her voice and got angry but at the same time was trying to calm him down, almost like you would try to calm down a child."

Nigella Lawson's Husband, Charles Saatchi, Cautioned Over Throat- Grab Photos - But Why Did No One Help At The Time?

Nigella Lawson Charles Saatchi

The photos of Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi, published last Sunday (16th June) in theSunday People, have caused world-wide concern for the 54-year-old Lawson. The couple were seen at Scott's, a Mayfair restaurant they frequent, on Sunday 9th where the photographs were taken. It also happened to be Saatchi's birthday. He appears to have celebrated with a light lunch, a strop and the subsequent squeezing of his wife's throat.

In a statement made to the London Evening Standard, Saatchi claimed the photographs made the incident appear far worse than the 'playful tiff' was.

The restaurant has denied any of their staff witnessed the 'assault' yet eye-witnesses suggest Saatchi was aggressive and Lawson was 'tearful' and her voice was 'quivering'. The incident was evidently witnessed.

Nigella Throat Grabbing Pictures Were Just “Playful” Says Charles Saatchi

Nigella Lawson

Charles Saatchi has asserted that the controversial pictures of him with his hands around his wife Nigella Lawson’s throat were nothing but a “playful tiff” and that there was “no tiff”.

Nigella, who is a popular British chef, but has proved to be popular in America too, was thought to be strangled by her millionaire art collector husband Saatchi following the release of the pictures, but the mogul has subsequently denied those claims. "About a week ago, we were sitting outside a restaurant having an intense debate about the children, and I held Nigella's neck repeatedly while attempting to emphasise my point,” he explained. "There was no grip. It was a playful tiff. The pictures are horrific but give a far more drastic and violent impression of what took place. Nigella's tears were because we both hate arguing, not because she had been hurt."

And in explanation of her tears, Saatchi said she was not crying from pain, but from an innate displeasure of arguing. Lawson hasn’t made an official comment, but said yesterday that she had "left the family home with her children," which is a pretty big reaction to a "playful tiff."

Charles Saatchi Breaks Silence On Grabbing Nigella Lawson's Throat

Nigella Lawson Charles Saatchi

Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi were photographed outside at their favourite Mayfair restaurant, Scott's, on Sunday 9th June. They were published yesterday in Sunday People. They appear to show Saatchi holding Lawson by the throat a number of times whilst she attempted to appease him with a kiss on the cheek.

Saatchi claims the photographs have over dramatized the event. In a statement to the London Evening Standard, Saatchi said "the pictures are horrific but give a far more drastic and violent impression of what took place." He claims, despite photographs showing Lawson's eyes bulging, that "there was no grip" and it was merely "a playful tiff."

A number of eyewitnesses have spoken against Saatchi following the publication of the photographs. Although they had not thought to contact the police or even the press before yesterday. These unnamed eye-witnesses claim Saatchi was 'menacing', the scene was 'shocking' to see and that Lawson appeared 'tearful' and 'very upset', as reported in the London Evening Standard.

Why Did Saatchi Grab Nigella Lawson's Throat In Bustling Chelsea Restaurant?

Nigella Lawson Charles Saatchi

Fans of the celebrity chef Nigella Lawson were left in shock on Sunday (June 16, 2013) after photographs in weekend tabloid The People appeared to show husband Charles Saatchi grasping her throat at a top London restaurant. The couple are believed to have been arguing at their favourite garden table at Scott's in Mayfair, before art collector Charles gripped his wife's neck four times.

Despite the incident, Nigella attempted to placate her husband by kissing him before getting up and hailing a taxi in tears. The Met Police said officers from the Community Safety Unit at Westminster had begun an investigation into the incident, "Inquiries are in hand to establish the facts," said a spokesman.

Power couple Nigella and Saatchi always ask for the same table at Scott's in Chelsea, so that the art guru can smoke while eating. It is partly sheltered by olive trees and box bushes, though the photographs clearly show Charles gripping his wife's neck while the chef looks distraught. Nobody intervened during the incident, though one onlooker said, "It was utterly shocking to watch. I have no doubt she was scared. It was horrific, really. She was very tearful and was constantly dabbing her eyes. Nigella was very, very upset. She had a real look of fear on her face. No man should do that to a woman.
