There were thumbs protruding upwards all around Contactmusic HQ when Trent Reznor announced Nine Inch Nails comeback earlier in the year, and the first proper music to come out from the return has revealed itself today in the form of new track ‘Came Back Haunted’.

Reznor has been working with Adrian Belew – best known for his work with prog rockers King Crimson – and today revealed that there would be a new album, Hesitation Marks, and a forthcoming tour. Hesitations Marks will be the first album that Reznor has released under the Nine Inch Nails name since 2008 album The Slip, with the musician going on to make music under the guide How To Destroy Angels in the meantime.

The Nine Inch Nails tour meanwhile begins in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 28th and goes right through until Calgary on November 25th.

The track is simultaneously fresh and also a throwback to early career Nine Inch Nails, to the likes of Sin and Petty Hate Machine when Reznor was very more involved with electronic equipment and synths instead of guitars and more abrasive distortion. Given that his How to Destroy Angels project has constantly moved into more electronic realms this is perhaps no surprise. Of the tour, Reznor said it was a continuation of where 2008’s Lights In The Sky left off. "'Tension' picks up where 'Lights in the Sky' left off," he said in a statement. "This is the full-on NIN live experience, realized as we never could before." Godspeed You! Black Emperor are supporting on some of the dates to. Mega.
