Fact: Blur star Damon Albarn will be honoured with the first-ever Innovation Award at the NME Awards in London later this month (Feb14). Announcing the news, Nme editor Mike Williams says, "Damon's enduring popularity is a testament to his unrivalled talent. He is somebody who is always pushing things forward, always operating in his own sphere and forever innovating via experimentation and collaboration... We're lucky to have him, and it's an absolute honour for us to be giving Damon the Nme Award For Innovation."

Fact: Johnny Marr joined Dinosaur, Jr. onstage in New York at the weekend (01-02Dec12) as part of a star-studded celebration of the band's cult album You're Living All Over Me, which was released 25 years ago. The guitarist performed The Smiths hit The Boy With The Thorn In His Side with J Mascis and guests including Sonic Youth stars Kim Gordon and Lee Ranaldo, Frank Black and Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew and Kurt Vile, according to NME.com.

John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono is proud of THE BEATLES star's latest posthumous achievement. He was named rock's ultimate icon by editors at British music magazine Nme this week (begs17Sep12), beating former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher into second place.

Fact: The Pogues star Spider Stacy has landed a role in cult TV drama series Treme. The folk rocker will appear on the New Orleans-based show in November (11) and play a tin whistle player from London called Slim Jim Lynch, according to NME.com. Elvis Costello, who was once married to Stacy's former Pogues bandmate Cait O'Riordan, also appeared on the show and country rocker Steve Earle is a regular.

Fact: Foo Fighters star Dave Grohl will be immortalised in a special edition of British rock magazine NME. The limited edition release, titled NME Icons: Dave Grohl, features interviews with the ex-Nirvana drummer and Queens of the Stone Age star Josh Homme, as well as a series of rare photos.
