Oasis Turned Down 'Trainspotting' Soundtrack Because They Thought It Was Actually About Trainspotters

Oasis Noel Gallagher Danny Boyle

One of the reasons why the movie Trainspotting was so beloved back in 1996 was its soundtrack, full of stars from the contemporary world of Britpop such as Elastica, Pulp, Underworld and Leftfield. But one of the biggest names in music was missing: that of Oasis, the biggest name on the scene.

It turns out that the Manchester legends were offered the opportunity to record a track for the movies, but that Noel Gallagher turned it down because he presumed the film to actually be about trainspotters, rather than poverty-stricken heroin addicts in Edinburgh.

Liam Gallagher Blames Brother Noel For Lack Of Oasis Reunion

Liam Gallagher Noel Gallagher

Liam Gallagher has blamed his brother Noel Gallagher for their band Oasis not having a reunion this year.

The 44-year-old singer and his older sibling have been at loggerheads since they fell out in 2009 when he quit the group but, although he's not overly interested in making up with the 49-year-old rocker, he believes Noel's determination to be a solo artist is shattering the chances.

Taking part in a Q&A with Johnny Vaughan at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium for Radio X, the 'Songbird' songwriter was asked to get Oasis back together.

'Wonderwall' Voted Best British Song Ever By Radio X Listeners, As Oasis Dominate Poll

Oasis Noel Gallagher

In a revelation that will surprise precisely nobody, Oasis have thoroughly dominated a poll conducted by Radio X to discover the best British song of all time, securing not only the number one spot with ‘Wonderwall’ but also the rest of the top four.

There’s been plenty of scorn directed at the online poll, which has been run by the overwhelmingly white male-oriented station over the last week, as the now-defunct Manchester group had their songs ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, ‘Champagne Supernova’ and ‘Live Forever’ named as the rest of the top four respectively.

Archaeological Discovery Will Not Prevent 'T In The Park' Go-Ahead

The recent archaeological discovery at the new site of the T In The Park festival will not prevent the weekend-long event from going ahead, experts have confirmed.

Contractors preparing the site near Strathallan Castle came across what archaeological experts believe to be a 3,000 year old roundhouse, and works were immediately put on hold while the structure was examined.

The festival’s organisers, DF Concerts, had feared that the discovery would force them to delay or perhaps cancel this year’s festival, due to be held in July. Archaeological discoveries frequently hold back construction projects all over the world.

Noel Gallagher has denied recent reports that Oasis are due to reform, blaming his younger brother Liam for starting the false rumour.

Furthermore, the 47 year old claims that he hasn’t at any point considered reuniting the beloved Britpop group, after he himself quit the band at a show in Paris in August 2009. At the time, Liam was reported to have broken one of his favourite guitars minutes before the band was due onstage at a festival.

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, he said: “There was a rumour last week that we've had a gentleman's agreement [to reform Oasis], but that rumour's come from his people. It's a ‘source close to him’, and I'll tell you how close it is: she probably wakes up with him every morning. It's always left to me in an interview to let the kids down. At the annual GQ Men of the Year Awards, Russell Brand sparked off a war of words between himself, Charles Moore, actor Jeremy Piven and a host of others, as the group embarked on a night long slanging contest that took place during their respective time on stage. According to the Evening Standard, the slang-off was sparked by Brand's ill-advised Nazi joke, which seemed to set the subject matter for the night early on.

GQ Men Of The Year Awards Descend Into Chaos Over Russell Brand, Nazis, Jews

Russell Brand Noel Gallagher

The GQ Men of the Year awards is always a rather boisterous affair. When you stick a load of preened rock stars, comedians, actors and journalists in the same room, give them free alcohol and tell them how stylish and brilliant they are: things are going to happen. And they did.

The controversy began when Russell Brand arrived on-stage to collect his 'Oracle' award, reminding the audience that the event's sponsor - high end designer Hugo Boss - was responsible for designing the SS uniforms during World War II. For all intents and purposes, they were pretty snappy outfits, though probably a period on the designer's history that it would rather forget.

"If anyone knows a bit about history and fashion, you know it was Hugo Boss who made uniforms for the Nazis. But they looked f***ing amazing," said Brand, to gasps in the room at the Royal Opera House, according to the Evening Standard.

Beady Eye recently dropped a new album and are hitting the campaign trail hard, including an appearance on The Voice this weekend. The band, formed mainly by the remaining members of Oasis, sans Noel Gallagher, released its second studio album – BE – at the beginning of this week and promotion for it has just been kicked into gear. Just this week, Beady Eye members Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer, Andy Bell, Chris Sharrock and Jay Mehler have already made two promotional appearances – an intimate in-store gig at London’s Rough Trade and a signing at HMV in Manchester, according to Gigwise.

If their promo footage is to be believed, BE is supposed to be the opening of a brand new chapter.

"This will go out into the world, and our work is done, and that's our primary responsibility. And the gift that we get from doing something like this is the present. Like, when we press play,” Gallagher ever so eloquently puts it. "That's the highest gift anyone can have, it's like, 'Woah, f**k, we made something happen. I mean, life is about growth, it's about change."

Liam - wearing his trademark mac, jeans and desert shoes combo - signed autographs and posed for photographs on the train platform before heading to HMV on Market Street to launch the record.

Busy commuters stopped in their tracks and pulled out smartphones as the Manchester legend paraded through the city centre. Later, Gallagher invited 100 fans to an after-party at his designer store Pretty Green on King Street, reports the Manchester Evening News.

"On my way to Manchester centre of the universe," Liam had tweeted earlier in the day, before arriving in the north-west with band mates Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock for an acoustic gig of tracks from the new album.

Noel Gallagher Slags Off One Direction At Ivor Novello Awards, (Takes Home A Gong)

Noel Gallagher One Direction Ivor Novello Awards Emeli Sande Randy Newman

"I come to the Ivor Novellos because One Direction aren't invited," said Noel Gallagher at this years Ivor Novello Awards, as the mouthy Mancunian commended the awards show for it's exclusivity and celebration of more obscure artists.

Among these often overlooked artists being recognised at Thursday's (May 16) event were three-time BRIT winning singer Emeli Sandé, who won two awards, Mercury Award winning act Alt-J, the multi-Oscar winning/nominated Randy Newman, and the multi-VMA and Grammy award winning Calvin Harris. Noel also picked up an award too, taking home the Outstanding Song Collection gong.

Speaking to NME on the red carpet just prior to the show, the former Oasis singer/guitarist said the reason he came to the awards show was "Because clowns like One Direction aren't invited, so it must be a good one" (and maybe the promise of an award would have enticed him in).

Relentless Potty Mouth: Why Noel Gallagher Can't Take X-Factor Job

Noel Gallagher

Noel Gallagher has confirmed that he was asked to take up one of the judge’s roles on X Factor but insists that he’s not interested in the job. mainly because he’d have to watch his language. An hour or two of not swearing every week? Too much for the Mancunian lad-rocker, it seems. He’d feel compelled to call Louis Walsh a “c***” apparently. Actually, perhaps we can sympathise with that one.

“Yes, I was asked to do it again,” said Gallagher but explained that his propensity for foul language pretty much rules him out of the race for the job: “You may be aware, I've got a slight case of Tourette's syndrome and I would just end up saying to Louis Walsh, 'Will you shut up, you c**t!'" Charmed, we’re sure. Noel also seemed to think that his fee would have be fairly astronomical, too – possibly not even one that the X Factor budget could stretch to. Working from the basis that Sharon Osbourne is getting paid one and a half million pounds for her appearance on the show, he reckons he must be worth at least £3 million. “If she's worth one and a half, what am I worth? Three? Three and three quarters? I've not got anything against the show, I just don't want to be on the telly every Saturday night. F**k that.”

Despite reports that Noel was considering the job because his daughter’s a fan of the show, it now appears that that is not the case. And he reckons he’s got better things to do with his time. Which, maybe he has. Maybe.

Riding On The Shoulders Of Dogs: Liam Gallagher Gets Wasted

Liam Gallagher Oasis Noel Gallagher

Liam Gallagher’s not one for ageing gracefully, bless him, not that the punters at The Old White Bear in Hampstead, north west London seemed to mind too much as he indulged in a boozy drinking session with his mates at the weekend, which culminated in him trying to ride around on a dog.

That’s right, the inebriated brother of Noel and former Oasis man hopped on board a passing dog and attempted to ride it like a pony. An onlooker commented “He tried to get on the dog’s back and they were just taking little steps — but it just didn’t work. It was really funny.” The group carried on drinking, including ordering £47 bottles of champagne, however after racking up a tab of more than £300 it looked like they might well depart without paying a penny –and not out of the kindness of the owners.

A source told The Sun: “The poor waitress serving them was crying when she thought she’d lost all the money, but the pub manager ran after him.” Thankfully the incident just seemed to be a bit of drunken forgetfulness, with the manager telling the paper “After £300 of drink you forget things. He was happy to pay straight away when I caught up with him.” Liam always was the more rock n’ roll brother of him and Noel, wasn’t he?

Noel Gallagher And Mick Jones' Daughters Unite For Peta Animal Cruelty Campaign

Noel Gallagher Mick Jones

Noel Gallagher (Oasis) and Mick Jones’ (The Clash) daughters have joined forces with the animal charity PETA for an ad campaign, encouraging people to report animal bullying.

With the tagline ‘Cruelty Doesn’t Fly With Us. Be An Angel For Animals,’ Ava Jones, 8, Stella Jones, 10 and Anais Gallagher, 13 are dressed in boots and tutus for the adverts, with wings and a halo drawn on each girl, afterwards. The photo shoot was taken by leading celebrity photographer Pal Hansen.

The purpose of the advert is to urge other children to report anyone that they see harming animals. The ad goes on to say “Only bullies hurt animals. Don’t be afraid to report them.” Noel’s daughter Anis said, in a press statement “We all know it's wrong to abuse animals, but it takes courage to speak up when we see an animal in trouble. If you suspect that somebody's hurting an animal, be brave and tell your parents, a teacher, PETA or a police officer. You could save that animal's life."

Nicole Scherzinger Reluctant For More X-Factor, As Simon Looks To Noel

Nicole Scherzinger Simon Cowell The X Factor Noel Gallagher

Nicole Scherzinger is giving X-Factor bosses a major headache ahead of the new series, which starts on ITV later this year. The American singer emerged as a hit member of the judging panel and mentored both finalists on the most recent series, though the ex-Pussycat Doll is releasing a new album in November on both sides of the Atlantic and will be required to be available for heavy promotion.

Overseen by Simon Cowell, X-Factor bosses have tabled a bid of around £1 million for Nicole to return to the show - according to The Sun - though she insists money is not a sticking point, which isn't hard to believe. She's already one of the most recognisable stars on the planet and, err, dates Lewis Hamilton. She told a pal: "I'm so torn right now. My heart wants me to come back and do the show as I had such a great time last year. But my album is coming out and I also need to focus on that. I don't think I can make it work. By trying to juggle the two, one or both will suffer," she told a pal.

Nicole pointed towards the intense criticism that Kelly Rowland received after missing some of the live shows during her tenure on the show, saying she didn't want to experience anything similar. It leaves Simon Cowell with work to do to reform his judging panel, with Gary Barlow the only member of the team thought to have signed on for another stint. ITV bosses are still unsure about the relevance of Louis Walsh, while a deal for Sharon Osbourne is yet to be done.

X-Factor Bosses Tell Noel Gallagher To "Name His Price" For Judging Spot

Noel Gallagher Simon Cowell The X Factor Gary Barlow Nicole Scherzinger Sharon Osbourne

X-Factor producers have officially approached Noel Gallagher for the second time with an offer to become a judge on the ITV talent show. The former Oasis guitarist, 45, has been at the top of Simon Cowell's wish list for a number of years, though Noel's management company Ignition have received the biggest offer yet from the Syco Music mogul, thought to be, essentially, a blank cheque.

A source told The Sun last night, "Simon is determined to get Noel on board. He sees him as his natural replacement as the real alpha male on the panel. He thinks Noel would be ideal, with his music knowledge, straight-talking and rapier wit." Cowell made a seven-figure offer to the rocker last year, though was knocked back as Gallagher prepared to release his No.1 album. Though Noel has made no secret of his openness to offers should the money be right, it may be his young daughter who emerges as the key to discussions. The source added, "Noel's daughter Anais is a huge fan of One Direction and X Factor, so she'll be nagging him to say yes."

The guitarist appears to have the talents required to judge and mentor singing hopefuls. During an interview with Real Radio Yorkshire in 2011, Gallagher said, "I don't mind The X Factor.I've got an 11-year-old daughter; she's obsessed with it as all 11-year-old girls are. I was watching it on Saturday actually, and I managed to pick everybody they put through to the live finals." He also spoke of being approached by Cowell, "I know him and he was going 'we want you to be on it'" Noel said, "I was going 'you don't really want me on it - I won't put anyone through, and I can't have people round my house crying in the kitchen when I don't put them through because they'll frighten the cat."

Noel Gallagher Set For An X-Factor Judging Spot? Surely Not

Noel Gallagher The X Factor Simon Cowell

Will we be seeing Noel Gallagher preside over a judging chair on The X-Factor? Well if reports are to be believed, and if Simon Cowell gets his way, then we might well do.

The former Oasis guitarist has reportedly been offered a deal to judge on the talent show whereby he can name his salary. “Simon is determined to get Noel on board. He sees him as his natural replacement as the real alpha male on the panel,” a source told The Sun. “He thinks Noel would be ideal, with his music knowledge, straight-talking and rapier wit.” Given Gallagher’s public disdain for bands like One Direction, who were given their break on the talent show, it seems very unlikely that the mercurial rock star will take up the offer, but will his hand be forced? “Noel’s daughter Anais is a huge fan of One Direction and x factor, so she’ll be nagging him to say yes,” the source added.

Unusual Styles, Gallagher And Kane Trio Snapped At London's Groucho Club (Pictures)

Harry Styles Miles Kane Noel Gallagher Groucho Club

It seems to have been a busy night on Wednesday (April 3rd 2013) at London's popular party joint Groucho nightclub as Noel Gallagher and Miles Kane are joined by. Harry Styles?!

What do you get when you cross Harry Styles with Noel Gallagher and Miles Kane? Well, if you'd attended the Groucho Club last night you might've got some idea as the three of them were spotted enjoying a few drinks at the private members club. Though we're still not sure if they even spoke to each other, the thought of them together is a little bizarre and not only because of the One Direction hunk being thrown into the mix, but also for High Flying Birds star Noel, who must've had the shock of his life when he spotted Miles Kane pulling up who  bears a remarkable resemblance to Noel's estranged brother Liam Gallagher. The dapper suit and tie might've given the game away though, even if the hair is spot on.

James Blake Overgrown Artwork

Albums of Note... It’s been a long two years since James Blake released his debut eponymous album and now, the pioneering producer returns with Overgrown, album number two. Peppered with quality collaborations, with hip-hop legend RZA and electronic music’s figurehead Brian Eno, Overgrown is the sound of an artist still trying to find his niche, but releasing high quality, accomplished tracks, whilst he’s on his journey. Blake really is a talent to behold, as his ingenious moulding together of poles apart genres and production wizardry clearly shows… when you're already as accomplished at all manner of musical exercises as he is then it will obviously be hard to focus all this talent and all this energy into one place.

Splitting opinion like musical Marmite, John Grant returns with Pale Green Ghosts. This album may sound unrecognisable as Grant, to anyone already familiar with his work. He’s hooked up with Gus Gus’ Biggi Viera and has decamped to Reykjavik. As a result, a new reliance on vintage-sounding synthesisers and a nod to club-land has John Grant sounding like an altogether different proposition to the John Grant of days gone by.Grant's dyspeptic edge may be blunted, but when called upon the man can make a fine ass post-modern disco song, like we ever doubted that he could, and Blackbelt is a tweaked remix away from the transient world of A Lists, charts and chat shows. Cleverly poignant, its way with knock out disses would give Jake Shears something to think about if it proved to be a permanent change of direction…

Is Liam Gallagher Right To Mock Noel Over Blur Collaboration?

Liam Gallagher Noel Gallagher

Liam Gallagher has blasted his brother Noel for performing with former Blur arch rivals Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon over the weekend. Former Oasis songwriter Noel teamed up with the Britpop pair at the Teenage Cancer Trust concert on Saturday evening (March 23, 2013) prompting a fiery response from his younger sibling.

"Don't know what's worse RKID sipping champagne with a war criminal or them backing vocals you've just done for BLUE ! LG x (sic)" tweeted Liam, also referring to Noel's decision to meet with Tony Blair following his election as Prime Minister. Liam, 40, and Noel, 45, have barely spoken since the latter quit Oasis in August 2009 following a fight with his younger brother, though both trade barbed insults regularly through the press.

Noel, Damon and Graham provoked rapturous applause after arriving on-stage together at London's Royal Albert Hall, though the performance was somewhat marred by the fact Paul Weller was on drums. The Evening Standard said The Jam star played "as though he'd never seen a kit in his life."

Ed Sheeran Denies Lying To Noel Gallagher About Teenage Cancer Trust

Ed Sheeran Noel Gallagher

Ed Sheeran has denied making false promises to Noel Gallagher about performing at this year's Teenage Cancer Trust show. The former Oasis songwriter accused both Sheeran and Mumford and Sons of pulling out of a verbal commitment to the play the show, which he curated.

Speaking to The Sun last week, Gallagher fumed, "I'd talk to Ed Sheeran and Mumford & Sons.. and I got let down a lot. Everybody says yes to your face. And then the agent will call and say, 'Ah, they're going to be in Australia at the time.' Really? Well, they never said that to me." However, the A-Team singer denies making false promises and claimed he would have played the concert had he not been in down-under. "I actually told him I would do the gig whenever he wanted, but the week they were planned I was in Australia," he explained on Twitter, "...with gigs already booked and sold out. Had it been any other time of course I would have made it happen but I found this out after I'd said yes. I think it would be worse saying no instantly without knowing to be honest."

Sheeran would have been a headline act for the show, which last night saw Rizzle Kicks and Labrinth perform. On Saturday, Noel teamed up with former rivals Graham Coxon and Damon Albarn for a special performance.

She might have been releasing a book last night (November 15), but there was nothing bookish about the behavior of supermodel Kate Moss and her guests in London, with more than a few stars being spotted leaving 50 St James somewhat dishevelled in the early hours. It had been a busy day for Moss, who'd been signing copies of her book earlier in the day at the Marc Jacobs store in Mayfair, but she was in no mood to let tiredness put her off partying - and neither were the rest of the revellers. Cara Develingne was among those seen leaving the venue somewhat worse for wear in the early hours, whilst a host of British stars also were in raucous spirits, including Noel Gallagher, football player Peter Crouch and girlfriend Abbey Clancy, Florence Welch, Pixie Geldof and her dad Bob, Stella McCartney, Radio One DJ Nick Grimshaw, Christopher Biggins and Jo Wood.

Kate Moss Lived With Noel Gallagher In The 1990s?

Kate Moss Noel Gallagher Bob Geldof Florence Welch Alison Mosshart Donna Karan

Kate Moss held a predictably lavish launch party for her new book, Kate: The Kate Moss Book at 50 St James Street, London, this week. After spending the early evening signing copies of the tome at Marc Jacobs' bookshop in Mayfair, Moss arrived at the bash to be greeted by the likes of Bob Geldof, Noel Gallagher, Florence Welch, Alison Mosshart and Donna Karan

WWD.com's reporter said "It was hard to move at the party for Kate Moss' new book without coming nose-to-nose with a glass of Veuve Clicquot - or a famous person," and they caught up with Mr Gallagher to chat about the heady 1990s when his group Oasis and Ms Moss moved in similar circles. "She actually lived with me for a while," he revealed, "There would be more people waiting outside my flat to see her than there were for me. I would pop out to the shops and people would ask me, 'Is Kate in? Can you get me her autograph?" The pair met at a part in 1994, though Manchester-born Noel had no idea who Kate was, despite her being the most famous model in the world. "I had just moved down from Manchester and was not that familiar with the London scene. Two weeks later, I was in America and her face was everywhere, on billboards, on every magazine." As WWD.com's reporter moved downstairs, the party appeared to get worse. Quickly. Moss was seen high fiving DJ Nick Grimshaw and Sharleen Spiteri "took advantage of the club's secret smoking area."

Kate: The Kate Moss Book is available at all good book stores - and some rubbish ones - now.

Q Awards: Are Muse Really The Best Act In The World Today?

Muse Blur Jarvis Cocker Noel Gallagher Adele Stone Roses

The answer, of course, is no. But it's that time of year again folks: the Q Magazine Awards! Muse picked up the biggest gong at the event in London on Monday afternoon (October 22, 2012) known for rewarding middle-of-the-road and aging rock acts with offensively generic prizes such as one that now sits proudly on Matt Bellamy's mantelpiece.

Though Blur have been excellent in the handful of shows they've played since reforming, were they really befitting of best live act? Saying that, they were going up against The Stones Roses in a farce of a category. Dance act Underworld received the 'Innovation in Sound' award - whatever that is - while Jarvis Cocker picked up the 'Inspiration Award.' Q magazine editor Andrew Harrison told the BBC, "Our bands and our anthems transformed the Olympics... and amazing comeback shows from Blur and the Stone Roses showed the enduring appeal of our best-loved musicians." Hmm, ok Andrew, but what about the new British acts? Well, Emile Sande won best solo artist in another bizarre category featuring Noel Gallagher and Adele, while American soul star Bobby Womack won best album for 'The Bravest Man in the Universe.'

Elsewhere, Dexys Midnight Runners took home the Q Icon Award, Johnny Marr won Q Hero, and The Cribs won the 'Spirit of Independence Award.' Anyone hazard a guess at who won the Q 'Idol' award? Clue: frontman of The Killers. Sigh.

Amazing Journey: The Story Of The Who Review

Good
"From humble beginnings to their meteoric rise to rock legend status," Amazing Journey offers everything we've come to expect from a rock documentary. Every piece of information you'd want about The Who can be found here. Early hits like "I Can't Explain" and "My Generation" are chronicled, as is Pete Townshend's instrumental destruction (which has since become a widely copied cliche). Each member of the band gets face time -- though John Entwhistle and Keith Moon, both deceased, are covered via archival material -- in order to pontificate on the band's origins and legendary stories. Non-Who rock gods, from Sting to Eddie Vedder, are also on hand to wax Whoish.

You really hear all there is to know about The Who along the way: from Tommy to two drug overdoses to the influence of guru Meher Baba (the "Baba" in "Baba O'Reilly") to the 11 people killed at a 1979 Who concert trampled trying to get into the show, still the deadliest concert event in American history. Even Townsend's run-in with the law over a child pornography incident earlier in the decade is covered, if only on a surface level.

Noel Gallagher Doubts That Live 8 Will Be Successful

Noel Gallagher Oasis Keane

Noel Gallagher has revealed that the Live 8 concert is unlikely to achieve what it set out to do - that being, convince politicians from some of the richest countries in the world to band together and wipe out the debts that poorer nations owe them. The Oasis guitarist has stated his belief that rock stars and musicians alone do not hold that sort of political sway, and they honestly do not have the power to influence the decision-makers within the G8.

Believing that all the hard work will be in vain, Gallagher explained that: "Correct me if I'm wrong, but are they hoping that one of these guys from the G8 is on a quick 15 minute break at Gleneagles (in Scotland) and sees Annie Lennox singing 'Sweet Dreams' and thinks, 'F**k me, she might have a point there, you know?'
