An old mid-1990s Britpop battle has been reignited as Blur and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds are up against each other in the Best Album category - Blur for The Magic Whip, and Noel for Chasing Yesterday. They will fend off competition from Jamie xx (In Colour), Everything Everything (Get To Heaven), and Florence + The MAChine (How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful).

The former foes will also vie for the title of Best Act In The World Today, alongside Foals, Muse and Ed Sheeran.

Gallagher earned his own nomination in the Best Solo Artist category, which features tough competition from Sheeran, Sam Smith, Kanye West and Taylor Swift.

With three nominations, Gallagher ties with Florence + The MAChine and Foals with the most nods.

The Q Awards will be handed out in London on 19 October (15).
