Brett Ratner And Warner Bros. Part Ways After Sexual Harassment Claims

Brett Ratner Olivia Munn Natasha Henstridge Harvey Weinstein

Warner Bros. studio and filmmaker Brett Ratner have parted ways on all forthcoming movie projects, after the producer was accused of sexual harassment by numerous women earlier this week.

The news of the decision came in the aftermath of a report in the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday (November 1st) cited six women who allege that Ratner sexually harassed them, or behaved inappropriately toward them, including actresses Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge.

“In light of the allegations being made, I am choosing to personally step away from all Warner Bros.-related activities,” 48 year old Ratner said in a statement, reported by the Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t want to have any possible negative impact to the studio until these personal issues are resolved.”

Ride Along 2 Review

Bad

Ice Cube and Kevin Hart reteam for a sequel no one really asked for, following up their lacklustre 2014 action-comedy with a film that's even lazier. While the first one at least had a sense of pacing, with humour that sometimes tipped from idiotic to mildly funny, this movie wastes its cast and premise on a series of witless action sequences, dopey slapstick and contrived relational touches. It's only watchable because Hart is able to make the most undemanding audience members chuckle now and then.

After proving that his video-gaming skills were useful in police work, Ben (Hart) has completed police academy and is working as a rookie, shadowing tough-guy detective James (Cube), whose sister Angela (Tika Sumpter) is marrying Ben in just a week. But before that happens, James and Ben head to Miami to follow a lead in a drug case they're working on. Alongside local tough-girl detective Maya (Olivia Munn), they track down a hacker (Ken Jeong) who has proof that local philanthropist Antonio (Benjamin Bratt) is actually a notorious global black market dealer. To prove that, they have to dive into a series of car and boat chases, plus heists and shootouts that never seem to go the way anyone expects.

The underlying story is exactly the same as the first film: James is trying to prove that Ben is an idiot, while he is actually softening James' rough edges. The difference here is that they know each other a bit better, so are more effective at getting under each others' skin. This means that they're even less likeable than before, and even Hart's non-stop comical chatter is more annoying than it is amusing. There are moments when Hart adds a tiny detail that elicits a smile from viewers, and some of his physical antics are so ridiculous that it's difficult not to giggle, but most of that is simply because it's unbelievable that the filmmakers thought any of this was genuinely funny.

Derek and Hansel aren't as relevent as they used to be in the industry, and their careers face series threats when it becomes clear that a rival organisation is planning to take down their new modelling agency. These guys give a new meaning to the term brother-in-law. Not only that, but Ben is now officially able to join James in Atlanta's police department having just graduated from the police academy. However, Ben hasn't changed much, and still makes dumb decisions, bringing a lot of embarrassment on to James. He's as jumpy on the trigger as always, with his nerves making him a bumbling but formidable partner, but you can't really blame him this time around when he's got a wedding to plan. If life wasn't stressful enough, the soon to be brothers are forced to team up with Miami PD to uncover a major drugs operation. The only question is, can Ben keep his cool long enough to solve the case? Or will his mistakes screw everything up this time?

Jennifer Lawrence Michael Fassbender Olivia Munn

Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Olivia Munn were among the stars who participated in a special live reading of the script for cult classic movie The Big Lebowski at the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal. But it all very nearly ended in disaster when a flub by Olivia Munn almost threw the whole star-studded cast off.

Jennifer LawrenceJennifer Lawrence has participated in a live reading of The Big Lebowski.

According to Mashable, Munn who was playing Bunny, Maude's stepmother, managed to stop the entire cast in their tracks when she accidently read Lawrence’s opening line. Lawrence, who had been assigned the part of Jeffrey Lebowski's daughter Maude and seemed equally confused when Munn said her lines.

Mortdecai Review

Bad

Despite a superior cast and terrific-looking production values, this mystery romp is a misfire on every level. The only vaguely entertaining moments come in some snappy wordplay that's presumably all that remains of Kyril Bonfiglioli's beloved novel Don't Point That Thing at Me. Otherwise, the film feels clumsy and outdated, and even Johnny Depp's quirky schtick seems halfhearted. So even though it looks great and elicits a few giggles, it's such a mess that it's hard to imagine why anyone got involved.

Depp plays Lord Charlie Mortdecai, an art expert whose immaculately kept manor house is at risk of foreclosure due to unpaid taxes. So he leaps at the finder's fee when his old pal MI5 Inspector Martland (Ewan McGregor) asks him to investigate a murder linked to a missing Goya painting. The problem is that Martland still holds a torch for Charlie's wife Joanna (Gwyneth Paltrow), a brainy bombshell who launches her own investigation into the case. With his trusty manservant Jock (Paul Bettany) by his side, Charlie is taken to Moscow and Los Angeles in search of the Goya. And it all boils over in a chaotic encounter with a smirking art collector (Jeff Goldblum), his man-crazy daughter (Olivia Munn) and a sneaky killer (Jonny Pasvolsky).

Despite quite a lot of adult-aimed innuendo and violence, director David Koepp (Premium Rush) shoots the movie as if it's a hyperactive kiddie flick, all bright colours and shameless over-acting, with whooshing digitally animated transitions and a series of awkwardly staged car chases. None of this is remotely amusing. Even the constant double entendres are painfully overplayed, while the cartoonish Received Pronunciation accents put on by Depp, Paltrow and McGregor are more distracting than humorous. All of this leaves the characters impossible to engage with on any level; they aren't funny, endearing or even interesting.
