Morgan Spurlock has been hired to direct the One Direction film, which Sony will release the through its TriStar Pictures banner over Labor Day weekend on Aug. 30, 2013.

The concert film, which follows Brit pop stars One Direction, will also be steered by Simon Cowell, Ben Winston and Adam Milano, while Richard Griffiths, Harry Magee, Will Bloomfield, Matthew Galkin, Jeremy Chilnick and Doug Merrifield will exec produce. Hannah Minghella and Lauren Abrahams of Columbia Pictures execs will oversee production for the studio. The new One Direction 3D movie will be similar in format to Justin Bieber's Never Say Never and Katy Perry's Part of Me, which showcased their rise to stardom, combined with exclusive concert footage and backstage clips. In an official statement, Morgan Spurlock shared his excitement about working with One Direction. "This is an incredible opportunity and an amazing moment in time for the band," said Spurlock about the project. "To capture this journey and share it with audiences around the world will be an epic undertaking that I am proud to be a part of."

One Direction rose to prominence after losing in The X-Factor, but that hasn't stunted their growth whatsoever, and the film marks a remarkable career for the tender-aged heartthrobs. Spurlock, on the other hand, has a more political edge to his dealings, but was clearly drawn to the film because of its artistic integrity. For real.
