One Direction have stormed to the No.1 spot on the Official Album Charts this Sunday (Dec 1st).

Their third studio album 'Midnight Memories' debuts at the top spot as it earns the fastest set of 2013 in the UK.

It is also the former X-Factor contestant's fastest selling album ever.

According to the Official Charts Company, 'Midnight Memories' sold 237,000 copies this past week, beating 2011's 'Up All Night', which sold 139,000 copies and 2012's Take Me Home, selling 155,000 copies.

The hugely popular boy band broke Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories', which sold 165,000 copies back in May in its first week of release, to earn the fastest album of 2013.

Official Charts Company's Chief Executive, Martin Talbot said, "It is a fantastic first week for One Direction, whose album is not just the fastest seller of the year - but is also the first artist title to sell more than 200,000 copies in a week since Michael Buble's Christmas album in December, 2011. The success really does send a signal that the festive season is almost with us - and means 1D are now real contenders to claim the biggest album of the year."

Another X-Factor affiliate, Gary Barlow, bows in at No.2 with 'Since I Saw You Last', his first solo album in 14 years, selling 116,000 copies as well as knocking former band mate Robbie Williams to 3rd position.

Olly Murs also released his third studio album 'Right Place Right Time' which land in the 4th spot and rounding off the top 5 is Eminem's epic 'Marshall Mathers LP 2'.
