Eat bread. Lose weight. Earn $12 million.
Okay, so you have to be Oprah to do it. That woman is a money-making machine. She has managed to rake in over $12 million just by Tweeting about eating bread while on a diet. We're not even kidding. She's actually earning money by eating her favourite food while still losing weight and telling everyone about it.
Oprah Winfrey loses 26 pounds and still eats bread
The media mogul took to Twitter yesterday (January 26th 2016) to unveil the holy revelation to all the budding dieters out there, accompanied by a link to the Weight Watchers website and a 30-second video. 'Eat bread. Lose weight. Whaaatttt? #ComeJoinMe', she wrote. She elaborated in her video that she managed to lose a massive 26 pounds since starting Weight Watchers, a company of which she owns 10% of shares.

It's been a long time coming, but she's ready to open up to the world.
She might be one of the richest people in the world, and indeed the only black billionaire in America, but surprisingly, with all her business ventures in mind, Oprah Winfrey has yet to unveil an autobiography. That's about to change soon though because this media superstar has finally signed a deal to publish her memoirs, 'The Life You Want'.
Oprah Winfrey's memoirs are coming in 2017
The book will be published via Flatiron Books and comes hand-in-hand with her own as-yet-unnamed imprint on Macmillan which will also feature a selection of other non-fiction works. She has decided against publishing a collection of memoirs throughout her career, getting close to it in 1993 before abruptly cancelling it. The closest she has got so far is 2014's 'What I Know for Sure' which featured various columns from her 'O' magazine.

The 20th Critic's Choice Awards showed up the Academy Awards by honouring people and films snubbed by the Oscars.
While the Academy Award nominations may have angered quite a few people, the Critic's Choice Awards took place on the same day (15th January 2015) at the Hollywood Palladium. Hosted by Michael Strahan, this year's Critic's Choice Awards was the twentieth anniversary of the ceremony, and continued the tradition of honouring some of the very best that the year's cinema had to offer.

The ceremony differed from the upcoming Academy Awards in several ways. One of these was how it took the stance of being one of the few prestigious award ceremonies to honour 'Guardians of the Galaxy' (awarding it 'Best Action Movie' and 'Best Hair and Makeup'), and furthermore awarding the title of 'Best Animated Feature' to 'The Lego Movie' (which was shockingly snubbed by the Academy Award nominations). Perhaps Chris Pratt is just a magnet for these things.

Raven-Symoné explained to Oprah Winfrey how she managed to avoid becoming a clichéd child star. But could her comments be directed at her former roommate Lindsay Lohan?
Raven-Symoné has little sympathy for her fellow child stars who have gone off the rails. In a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey on Where Are They Now?, the 28-year-old actress discussed how she had managed to stay on track despite achieving stardom at a very early age.

Hollywood's most ridiculous charity bandwagon might be the most successful.
This week in news: celebrities are filming themselves getting buckets of ice poured over their heads. This is what millions of years of evolution has led to. Ok, so the latest celebrity trend, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is pretty simple. Whenever someone gets challenged, they’re supposed to get a helpful friend to pour ice water over then and donate to the ALS Association, which works to support sufferers of Amyotropic Lateral Schlerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Not even Oprah is above the ridiculous Ice Bucket Challenge.
So it might seem a bit... out there, but thanks to the Ice Bucket Challenge, ALSA has received $15.6 million in donations so far.
The cast and crew of restaurant drama 'The Hundred-Foot Journey' were seen arriving at the New York premiere held at the Ziegfeld Theater. Among them were producers Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg, director Lasse Hallstrom and his wife Lena Olin and stars Om Puri and Charlotte Le Bon who play Papa and Marguerite respectively.
In a month filled with Lindsay Lohan revelations, this might be the most startling one yet.
Lindsay Lohan has been familiar with the darker side of fame since the earliest days of her career, but she finally had too much during the taping of her OWN show, when Lohan suffered a miscarriage. Lindsay revealed the news during the final episode of her eponymous docu-series, when asked to reflect on her experience on the Oprah Winfrey-produced series.
The OWN show has seen Lindsay bare her soul in more ways than one.
"No one knows this," Lohan said ... "I had a miscarriage for those two weeks that I took off.”

Who can say they didn't see that one coming?
Earlier this week, Lindsay Lohan’s supposed “ex list” was posted recently in In Touch Weekly, prompting a storm of media coverage. It wasn’t the classiest of moves, but, judging by the lack of legal action on the part of Lohan, the list was legit – or, at the very least, she doesn’t have a problem with it going public. The list reportedly features 36 Hollywood heartthrobs (more or less), however some of the names have been blurred out, presumably for legal reasons. The names allegedly range from Justin Timberlake and Jamie Dornan to Zac Efron and James Franco.
Will Lohan's "ex list" rock the boat of her recovery?
The widespread reactions have ranged from E!’s “Go girl! Sex positive!” to tweets like “I wish my hookup list was as interesting at Lindsay Lohan's because DAMN GIRL”. But of course, the inevitable wave of shamers was… well, inevitable. We’ll refrain from posting them here due to questionable language, but a Twitter search can help with that.

While Oprah and co. try to drum up some publicity, Lohan's career hangs on the series' success.
Oprah’s reality series on the fascinating subject of Lindsay Lohan might not be the comeback the troubled star has been needing so desperately for so long. At least it doesn’t seem like much of a comeback from the recent trailer, which shows Oprah and Lindsay clashing more than anything else.
From the trailer, it seems like Lohan is up to the same old "chic"?
Last year, when the docu-series was announced, it sounded like an exciting endeavour. Lohan was cleaning up her act and who better to help her than professional celebrity redeemer Oprah Winfrey. This was in August, when Oprah’s first interview with Lohan aired and it looked like Lindsay was ready to move on from, as Winfrey put it, “being both an adjective and a verb for child star gone wrong”. Still, the trailer shows Lindsay having a full-blown meltdown with one of the show’s producers, as well as a clip of Oprah giving the Mean Girls star a stern lecture.

Will we see this new and improved Lindsay Lohan everyone has been talking about? Not likely.
Viewers were supposed to get the chance to learn everything there is to know about Lindsay Lohan, via her docu-series to air on OWN. Unfortunately, in a rather predictable twist, Oprah and her crew have had a lot of trouble filming the series and, as the newly released trailer shows, Lindsay has ended up being more about the difficult filming process, rather than the troubled starlet herself.
Will we see a new and improved Lindsay Lohan this time?
The series from Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network promises an “honest, no-holds-barred account” and “an intimate, unflinching look” at the actress after she left rehab last year. Unfortunately, Lohan turned out to be one difficult subject to get through. At one point, the famously cool and collected Winfrey can be heard saying: “This is exactly what everybody said was going to happen and I believed differently. You need to cut the [expletive].”

Spielberg is considered influential by almost half of the American population.
Steven Spielberg, who has won practically every filmmaking award in existence throughout his career, adds another honor to the list this week. Spielberg has been named as the most influential celebrity of 2014 in Forbes' annual list.
47% of Americans consider Spielberg influential.
The list was compiled for Forbes by E-Poll Market Research out of a database of 6,600 celebrities. The results factored in 46 different attributes, based on E-Poll’s data of Americans. Factors like celebrities’ likeability and level of public awareness were used as tie breakers.

Oprah's personal collection of art, furniture, vehicles and other personal belongings were among the items sold
Oprah Winfrey has a dedicated fan base; those who would follow the media mogul through thick and thin and would do anything just to get a piece of the O. This weekend, Oprah hosted a charity auction in Carpinteria, California, (she wasn't there, she was just in charge of it) where a number of her personal items were sold off in the name of charity and as you can image, there was a hefty presence from her fan base..
Some of the items on offer were relatively luxurious and would have fetched a hefty price anyway - such as the set if 18th century handmade Louis XVI armchairs that brought in $60,000 - but as the Los Angeles Times points out, what made the auction such a success was the price that some of the minor items on sale were sold for.
In a true indication of fan obsession, the hysteria of the auction began to show immediately when the first two items to go to sale: two promotional banners for The Color Purple, sold for $4,100 and $6,000 respectively, and the irrational spending only got worse from here.

The fun and frivolity of Cloudy...beat the high drama of Rush and Prisoners.
As expected, predicted and prophesized, the wonderfully strange world of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 enticed enough families to propel it to the top of the weekend box office.
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 proved magical enough.
It didn’t manage to outgun Hotel Transylvania, though, as the animated comedy grabbed $35m - $7.5m less than the spooky flick managed last September.
One Direction's 'This Is Us' were beaten to the title of Labor Day's most watched movie, but which film "swept" the board.
This year's Labor Day box office takings marked a record year for Hollywood, with an estimated $156 million paid to see movies across the national holiday weekend. One film "steamed" ahead over the weekend to give all other contenders the "brush" off by "sweeping" in $20 million over the four day holiday. Ok, enough of the cleaning puns; if you hadn't guessed, Lee Daniels' The Butler was the highest earning movie of the weekend, advancing its existing domestic earnings to a total of $79.3 million, according to THR.
Lindsay Lohan's interview with Oprah Winfrey aired on Sunday (18th August) on OWN. The actress spoke frankly about her addiction, wanting to live soberly and her family life.
Lindsay Lohan at the L.A. premiere of Scary Movie V.
When queried why she felt she was addicted, Lohan believes the roots of her addiction are in her childhood. She said "a lot of stuff went on with my family when I was young and I grew up in a very chaotic home and then there were moments of everything being wonderful and perfect and then things being so uncontrollable and chaotic that". She claimed she was, in a way, addicted to this sense of chaos because she'd never know anything different. She also continues by saying "I waited too long to face it."
Lee Daniels' 'The Butler' has well and truly cleaned up in its first weekend, having earned $25 million at the box office.
The Butler has outperformed all of its rivals upon its first weekend, having been released on 16th August to much nodding from critics and $25 million (£15.9m) earned. The film showcases an all-star cast, who portray a period of dramatic social upheaval in America, set around the life of the not-entirely-fictional butler, Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker).
A Shot From The Movie Showing The Kennedys Meeting The Whitehouse's Staff.
Gaines serves as a butler in the White House for 34 years and eight presidents and uses his unique position to witness important presidential discussions of national civil rights issues as the historical events play out. The movie charts such landmark events as Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, the Vietnam war, the Nixon resignation, Obama's presidential campaign and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Gaines' character is based upon the life of Eugene Allen who worked in the White House from 1952 to 1986.

Lindsay Lohan's interview with Oprah Winfrey aired last night (18th August) on OWN. Winfrey questioned Lohan on her addiction, family life and her time in prison.

The occasion marks Lohan's first post-rehab in-depth interview and it certainly seems Winfrey hit a few nerves. Lohan was mostly tearful throughout the interview with Winfrey asking questions on addiction, family life and her time in rehab and prison.
'Lee Daniels' The Butler' has headed to the top of the US Weekend Box Office following its release on Friday (16th). 'Kick-Ass 2', following an onslaught of negative reviews, has achieved 4th place, whilst 'Jobs' has placed at 7th.
Lee Daniels' The Butler has defeated other newcomers Kick-Ass 2 and Jobs in the US Weekend Box Office. The Butler has headed straight to number one whilst Kick-Ass 2 and Jobs have respectively gained 4th and 7th place.
The Butler has made $25 million in its opening weekend and has gained critical praise. The historical epic is inspired by the true story of Cecil Gaines, a black butler who whilst serving at the White House, saw the offices of eight presidents. His life and family form a touchstone for the audience when addressing such historical events as the Civil Rights Movement and the rise of Black Power in the US.
Early reviews of Lee Daniels' The Butler have been mixed. The film is released in the US tomorrow (Friday 16th August).
Lee Daniels' The Butler is released today in US cinemas. Early reviews of the historical drama have been mixed although most suggest the film is definitely worth a watch.
The film has been praised by critics for being "both deeply affecting and blatant Oscar bait", according to Claudia Puig of USA Today. Whilst Joe Morgenstern of the Wall Street Journal wrote in his review "fiction merges with fact, and finally soars."

Critical opinion is favorable to Whitaker and co., but Lee Daniels can't seem to catch a break.
Lee Daniels’ The Butler will only see its US-wide release tomorrow (August 16), but the film, telling the story of a White House butler, who saw eight presidents come and go during his residency, is already being praised across the internet and back.
The Butler might be patchy, but it's not bad, say critics.
For once, everyone seems to agree what’s so great about the film. The story of Cecil Gains is captivating in many ways, not least of all for its portrayal of the civil rights movement, but for Forest Whitaker in the title role, who steals the show.
Oprah Winfrey has issued an apology to the store in Zurich, though what does it mean?
Oprah Winfrey has made a public apology to an upmarket handbag store in Zurich for claiming they refused to sell her an expensive item based on the color of her skin.
Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you'll have heard that Oprah was in Switzerland for the wedding of her pal Tina Turner. Like any good billionaire, the TV star opted to do a little shopping before the ceremony and wandered into Trois Pomme seeking a nice new bag. Not too much to ask now is it?
Only, according to Oprah, a shop assistant at the store deemed a $38,000 Tom Ford bag - named after actress Jennifer Aniston - was "too expensive" for the queen of daytime television. Winfrey claimed she asked to see the bag numerous times, though was denied and ushered towards the cheaper items.

The Queen of chat has said sorry for letting her allegedly 'racist' experience in Zurich balloon into a huge debacle.
Oprah Winfrey claimed last week that she was the victim of a seemingly racist attack by a store clerk in Switzerland. Nearly ten days ago (5 August), the Queen of chat was speaking with Entertainment Weekly when she recalled a recent experience at an exclusive handbag boutique in Zurich - whose identity she chose not to reveal, although it later turned out to be the glitzy Trois Pommes - which sparked a media frenzy across much of the globe and calls for an explanation from the store clerk and the store manager.
Oprah has since backed down from the racism row
An explanation is exactly what we got too, and it was one that pleaded the store's innocence and that the whole ordeal was a big misunderstanding, something that even Oprah is starting to agree with. Trudie Goetz, the manager of the Zurich boutique, spoke to CNN to say that the entire incident was a "200 percent misunderstanding" and was in no way to do with racism. Similarly, the woman who served Oprah in Trois Pommes and supposedly declined her permission to see a handbag that was being kept behind the counter has also given her side of the story, again saying that there was a misunderstand between the two, which was most likely caused by her poor grasp of English. Speaking to Swiss paper SonntagsBlick, the shop assistant said, "I wasn't sure what I should present to her when she came in on the afternoon of Saturday July 20 so I showed her some bags from the Jennifer Aniston collection. I explained to her the bags came in different sizes and materials, like I always do."
Lindsay Lohan sat down with Oprah in an attempt to clear her name.
Lindsay Lohan – Hollywood’s most infamous fallen starlet – and Oprah Winfrey – Hollywood’s most infamous fixer-upper – sat down for a heart-to-heart recently and the blogs are all atwitter about it. The interview will air on Oprah’s Next Chapter this Sunday (August 18) and the preview that’s just been released makes it seem like Lohan is about to reveal some extremely personal details.
Watch a preview for the interview below.

Oprah's recent brush with racism at a Swiss luxury store sparked major controversy.
Earlier this week, Oprah caused some uproar with her story of an incident of racism she encountered at a high end store in Switzerland. The media magnate recounted on several shows how she went into the Trois Pommes store, looking for a present for Tina Turner’s birthday. Oprah recounted the incident for ET: "I didn't have my eyelashes on but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear... but obviously the Oprah Winfrey show is not shown in Zurich."
Despite having climbed the ranks, Oprah still faces instances of racism and sexism.
She then asked to see a specific item, which was, according to a report by the AP a Tom Ford Jennifer bag. The cashier, however, refused the request, noting that the bag was “too expensive” for her. The woman’s ignorance of pop culture aside, the incident has attracted lots of attention in the past week, sparking up discussions of racism and sexism and given Oprah and many others an opportunity to comment on the wider issue of prejudice.
The Queen of daytime chat says that she was given special treatment by a shop assistant in Zurich because of her race
Oprah Winfrey may be one of the most famous faces on the planet, not to mention one of the richest people in the entertainment industry, but that doesn't mean that she doesn't go unnoticed every now and then. The billionaire media mogul claims that during a recent trip to Switzerland, her misidentification led to an unpleasant prejudice being unearthed in urban inner-Europe.
Oprah was involved in the race-associated incident at the Zurich store
Oprah was speaking to Entertainment Tonight earlier this week when she discussed the incident that took place at an up-scale Zurich handbag shop. The media mogul claims that the shop assistant refused to show her an expensive handbag - a crocodile skin Tom Ford worth $38,000 - that was being held behind the counter, with Oprah recalling that the assistant told her that the bag will "cost too much and [she] will not be able to afford [it]."

The incident shows that even progressive countries are still quite far from abolishing discrimination.
Oprah Winfrey is a billionaire and a well-known and respected media magnate, but even she is occasionally faced with prejudice and discrimination. The much publicized incident Winfrey recently went through at a high-end Zurich store was just one example. The rundown is simple – shopping for a birthday gift for gal pal Tina Turner, Oprah walked into Trois Pommes, a luxury retailer carrying brands like Celine, Jil Sander, Lanvin – the usual suspects. Even in full Oprah garb, however, she received an unexpectedly chilly welcome.
Oprah's wealth usually exempts her from the typical discrimination.
Oprah recalled the incident in The International Business Times: “I was in Zurich the other day, in a store whose name I will not mention. I didn't have my eyelashes on, but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear. I had my little Donna Karan skirt and my little sandals. But obviously, the Oprah Winfrey Show is not shown in Zurich. I go into a store and I say to the woman, 'Excuse me, may I see the bag right above your head?' and she says to me, 'No. It's too expensive.”

Stallone makes surprising announcements about the third Expendables romp, and we get more details on films about Princess Diana, Steve Jobs and the White House butler. But the Muppets are the Most Wanted...
The big news this week was that Harrison Ford will join the Expendables for their third film adventure. Sylvester Stallone tweeted the announcement, then went on to mention that Bruce Willis won't be around this time, apparently because he asked for too much money. Stallone was also caught on camera poking fun at Arnold Schwarzenegger's "big ego". Before they re-team for the next Expendables movie, they're costarring in the prison-break thriller Escape Plan. Watch Sly talking about Arnie at Comic Con here.
The next big superhero blockbuster will be Thor: The Dark World, and we got a more detailed look at the film in a new trailer this week. Pretty much everyone is back, including Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Stellan Skarsgard. The movie looks like a huge-scale action adventure with a sense of humour about it. It opens in October. Watch the trailer for Thor: The Dark World here.
Talk show host Oprah Winfrey and her partner Steadman Graham were spotted arriving at the New York premiere for 'The Butler'. Oprah, who was wearing a sparkling pink sequined dress with her hair frizzed up with life, starred as the titular character's wife Gloria Gaines in the movie.
Perhaps not Oscars material, but still pretty good.
While The Butler seemed like an early contender for Oscar contention, the early reviews suggest it may have fallen short in some areas. Praised were the performances, especially Forest Whitaker's, but criticized is the depth of this ambitious movie.
Forest Whitaker and Cuba Gooding Jr in The Butler
“Whitaker digs in deep and gives a marvelous under-the-skin performance; he seems to catch the very essence of a man who has spent his whole life trying not to be seen,” say Variety. “A great film about the American civil rights movement is way overdue. The Butler, overwhelmed by flash and good intentions, doesn't even come close,” The Guardian write in their review.

Talkshow host told a luxury handbag was "too expensive" for her.
US talkshow host Oprah Winfrey has suffered a humiliatingly racist shopping experience in the Swiss city of Zurich. Lee Daniels' The Butler gathered high profile crowds at Ziegfield Theater this week.
Lee Daniels has earned his reputation as the director of difficult, socially loaded pictures and his latest, The Butler, is no exception to the rule. The film, based on a true story, details the life of Eugene Allen, a butler, who worked in cotton fields, before being employed by the White House for 34 years and serving during several presidential administration. In the script, Allen has been renamed to Cecil Gaines and the number of presidents, as well as some other details, has been changed, but the film still maintains historical accuracy. The film offers an intimate perspective of the dramatic twists of African-American history in the 20th century.

Hollywood and the film industry seem more confident in taking on the issue of slavery in a cinematic context. Last year saw Django Unchained and Lincoln prove popular, and this year will see more films of that ilk, including Lee Daniels' The Butler, which enjoyed its premiere last night (Monday, Aug 5) in New York.
Whitaker is The Butler
The film follows Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker) – an African-American White House butler who, due to his close proximity, was privy to many of the political events that helped shaped contemporary America. The film is based on the real-life account of Eugene Allen.

Mariah Carey appeared alongside Oprah Winfrey and Forest Whitaker on the red carpet sporting an adorned arm injury.
'The Butler' looks set to be one of the most memorable movies of the year with an all-star cast that glittered on the red carpet at the New York premiere last night (August 5th 2013).
Sparkling the brightest was Oprah Winfrey in a pretty pink sequined gown with her hair in full afro form, alongside her onscreen husband Forest Whitaker who plays the title role, and her real partner Stedman Graham. Nursing a dislocated shoulder in a funky studded sling was Mariah Carey, who has not been letting her injury get in the way of anything she does at the moment as this wasn't the first time she has stepped out in a quirky bling sling. Some of the presidents from the movie also showed up, including Liev Schreiber who played Lyndon B. Johnson and James Marsden who was John F. Kennedy, as well as First Ladies Minka Kelly as Jackie Kennedy and Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan.
Forest Whitaker plays the title character in 'The Butler'
Cecil Gaines is a modest and dedicated butler at the White House who manages to make for himself a respectable career despite his underprivileged upbringing and cotton farm roots. Starting out as a regular kitchen worker, Cecil soon proves himself to be extremely proficient and works his way up to be the head butler for eight different US presidents. Some of them prove to be discriminatory, treating Cecil with little respect and holding massively differing views to him, but he always remains polite and does everything within his power to care for his employers while keeping any top secret information that he might hear firmly to himself. Meanwhile, he struggles at home with his son; a Black Panther with aggressive views on racial equality who is less than grateful to have a father working for the people that he believes are causing racial oppression.
This story of loyalty and unconditional dedication is based on the true story of Eugene Allen; a butler who similarly lived through years of racial inequality before finally seeing, in his retirement, the election of the first black President, Barack Obama. His story was documented in the article 'A Butler Well Served by This Election' written by Wil Haygood. 'The Butler' has been directed by Lee Daniels ('The Paperboy', 'Precious', 'Shadowboxer') and co-written by Danny Strong ('Game Change', 'Recount') and will be released in the US on August 16th 2013.
Lindsay Lohan has decided not to take a three week European holiday after taking advice from Oprah Winfrey. Lohan and Winfrey are set to work together on an eight part documentary series which will focus on Lohan's substance abuse and subsequent rehab experience.
Lindsay Lohan has taken advice from Oprah Winfrey following her interview with the talk-show host. Lohan had planned a three week vacation to Europe, her flight from New York was due to take off tonight, as a reward for her successful 90-day rehab stay.
Oprah Winfrey at the O the Oprah Magazine hosts a special advance screening of Lee Daniels The Butler at The Hearst Tower Joseph Urban Theater in New York.
However, Winfrey has convinced the 27-year-old actress to stay in the US in case she relapses, according to sources speaking to TMZ. Winfrey contacted Lohan, via telephone, on numerous occasions over the last 24 hours. The 59-year-old talk show host convince Lohan by arguing, instead of heading odd on a hedonistic holiday, she needs to focus on maintaining her sobriety.
The slam shocked the media, but it appears to have left O herself unfazed.
Oprah Winfrey is an expert in conflict resolution – and she’ll need every last bit of those skills to win back former co-star Rae Dawn Chong. The actress starred with Oprah in The Color Purple and apparently, everything was fine while the two were working together. But once she moved on to Commando, O’s attitude apparently changed and so did Rae Dawn Chong. The actress has been hanging on to so much resentment that she let it all go in one massive rant… and it certainly wasn’t pretty. Chong claimed that Oprah was a self-centered fat "biotch" who would have been a "field n**ger" back in the slave days.”
The Forbes billionaire was slammed by a former colleague.
Chong, who is black herself, unleashed the torrent of anger on "Matty P's Radio Happy Hour" – and she didn’t stop at the slur either. She explained: "I starred in Commando. And she just wasn’t having me. She’s competitive. She didn’t like me. She just wasn’t having me."
Rae Dawn Chong - OH NO SHE DIDN'T.
Rae Dawn Chong has launched a blistering attack on her 'Color Purple' co-star Oprah Winfrey, unloading on the Queen of daytime television in an audio recording from her appearance on Matty P's Radio Happy Hour. The audio - up at TMZ.com - is an eye-opening insight into Chong's feelings on her former colleague.
Rae Dawn starts out by saying Oprah was "lovely" to be around on the set of Purple in 1985, though became "a total biotch" by the time she had moved onto her next movie, Commando.
"I starred in Commando. And she just wasn't having me. She's competitive. She didn't like me. She just wasn't having me," said Chong.

Soul singer Tina Turner, 73, has married her 57 year-old German beau Erwin Bach in a Swiss ceremony.
Tina Turner has married German record producer Erwin Bach in an exclusive ceremony on the shores of the beautiful Lake Zurich near their Kusnacht home. The pair have been dating since the eighties, with Turner publicly stating they'd never get married after her first marriage to Ike Turner turned out to be a toughie. Back when their engagement was announced earlier this year the media exploded with whoops of "toyboy!" and "cougar!" but it seems that their age difference - 16 years - has had no negative impact upon the happiness of their relationship.
Tina Turner, Soul Diva, Has Given Marriage Another Shot.
In 2006, Turner dispelled any notion that she and Bach would ever exchange vows during an interview with Oprah Winfrey (as reported by The Daily Mail), voicing her concerns over the implications of a marriage: "People often ask me why don't I marry. I have love. I have a good life. I don't need to interfere with that. For some people, marriage means "You're mine now."

OWN is giving Lindsay eight whole hours to tell her side of the story.
Following her latest stint in rehab, Lindsay Lohan truly seems to be on a quest to rebuild her life and career, but what would be the point, if the story wasn’t televised? Presumably to make the whole “fresh start” thing easier and, of course, more profitable, Ms Lohan will sit down with Oprah Winfrey to tell the story of her rehab stint and recovery. But that’s not all Lindsay is getting out of the deal.
Lindsay Lohan Is Recovering
The star of the upcoming The Canyons will also get her very own documentary series on Oprah’s OWN network. The starlet has been signed on for eight hour-long episodes, detailing her journey to rebuild her life and career after nearly a decade of bad choices and hard partying. The interview will tape and air this August, but we will have to wait until 2014 for the detailed account of the docu-series.
In an exhaustive week of celebrity news, tributes were paid to James Gandolfini, the late actor who played the legendary Tony Soprano on HBO’s long-running series The Sopranos. There was happier news for Kim and Kanye, who named their little girl, and Brad Pitt’s World War Z battled back to pull in millions at the box-office.
Sleep Well, Tony: James Gandolfini, the actor who took dramatic television performances to a new level as Tony Soprano in The Sopranos, died this week aged 51. Gandolfini won three Emmy Awards for the long-running HBO series and will be sadly missed in both the film and television world.
North, East, South, West: So Kim Kardashian and Kanye didn’t call their kid Kaidence. Phew. You can all breathe a massive sigh of relief now - but make sure you’re sitting down for this one. The girl’s name is North.
In a female dominated list, Oprah is back!
Forbes have just released their 100 Most Influential Entertainers list and Oprah has made a comeback as No. 1. True, it might not be a real comeback, considering that she only dropped to No. 2 in the past two years, but this is Oprah Winfrey we’re talking about – the woman never does anything halfway, comebacks included. According to Forbes, Winfrey has had an $88 million drop in earnings between June of last year and June 2013. However, the chart makes it clear that other factors, besides earnings are also taken into consideration when creating the list.
This year Winfrey returnes to her rightful place.
And while it is unknown exactly what those factors are – marketability, social media presence and entrepreneurial decisions are thought to be among them – Winfrey’s handling of the nosedive her OWN network took in the last two years, as well as her management of the rest of her media empire, including O Magazine, a network on Sirius XM and shows by protégés like Dr Phil means that she once again fits the bill. Winfrey made $77 million last year, down significantly from $165 million for the same period last year. That’s still a lot of money though, even for the entertainment industry, and the media empress is set to increase said profits in the coming year, as her newly rebuilt OWN network is predicted to begin turning a profit by the end of 2013. This year, OWN has undergone a complete overhaul, cutting out unprofitable project and replacing them with original programming, created by Winfrey herself with the help of Tyler Perry – another Forbes 100 staple.
A drop to second place might not necessitate a comeback, but Oprah is making one anyway.
Oprah is back, but we’ve known that for a while. The big news now is that the media mogul is back at the top of Forbes’ Most Influential Celebrities. After a two-year drop to second place, probably due to the cancellation of her talk show and the flop that Oprah’s OWN network turned out to be, she has once again reclaimed her spot as the single most powerful (though influential really does spound better) person in the entertainment industry. This is obviously the year of female entertainers, with Lady GaGa following closely at second place, Beyonce at 4th and Madonna, Taylor Swift and Ellen Degeneres all featured in the top ten.
Oprah might not be a talk show host anymore, but money still talks.
But it was mostly Oprah’s year, what with OWN returning from near-abandonment with brand new original programming, a lot of it featuring the woman herself. According to Forbes, the venture could turn a profit by the end of 2013, which would be a welcome change for the network, which reportedly lost $330 million between 2008 and 2013. However, things are looking up at the moment, as the Discovery-owned OWN is at least not hemorrhaging money anymore.

The star is heavily invested in charity work
Oprah Winfrey is no stranger to a philanthropic deed or two, in fact, her $12m donation to Smithsonian brings her total donation to $13m – the highest single source for a donation the museum has ever received.
“I am so proud of African American history and its contributions to our nation as a whole,” Winfrey said in a statement, explaining the reasoning behind her huge donation. “I am deeply appreciative of those who paved the path for me and all who follow in their footsteps. By investing in this museum, I want to help ensure that we both honor and preserve our culture and history, so that the stories of who we are will live on for generations to come.” In 2004, Winfrey became the first black person to rank among the 50 most generous Americans, and by 2012, the talk show host-cum-media mogul had donated over $400m to educational causes. The recipient of the first Bob Hope Humanitarian Award also handed out over 400 scholarships to Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s not just charitable causes that benefit from her generosity, either; she took her whole staff on holiday in 2006 after to celebrate 20 years of being on TV.
“Every donation, whether $25 or a $10 million corporate donation, is important. But truly, there’s only one Oprah Winfrey,” said the museum’s founding director, Lonnie G. Bunch, lauding Oprah’s contribution. “In essence, she’s put her imprimatur on it. Part of getting a museum built is tied to visibility helping all people see how important it is. Oprah Winfrey is someone so many people in America admire, and I think this is an important moment to the museum."

Oprah has proved her generosity yet again with her latest donation
Oprah Winfrey - the perennial philanthropist and media mogul - has handed out yet another significant wad of cash. This time the grateful recipient is the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, who will have been overjoyed to get $12m.
“I am so proud of African American history and its contributions to our nation as a whole,” Winfrey said in a statement. “I am deeply appreciative of those who paved the path for me and all who follow in their footsteps. By investing in this museum, I want to help ensure that we both honor and preserve our culture and history, so that the stories of who we are will live on for generations to come.” Oprah Winfrey Network has been a member of the museum’s advisory council since 2004. “Every donation, whether $25 or a $10 million corporate donation, is important. But truly, there’s only one Oprah Winfrey,” says the museum’s founding director, Lonnie G. Bunch.
The organisation has benefited heavily from celebrity donations - $10 million donation from both the Gates Foundation and the Lilly Endowment. “For a woman like her to give the museum that kind of gift now, before it is open, is really a vote of confidence and encouragement,” said Maria Di Mento, a staff writer for the Chronicle of Philanthropy. The Museum of African American History and Culture, which hosts a gallery at the National Museum of American History, is scheduled to open in 2015.

'The Butler' boasts a superb supporting cast including Robin Williams, John Cusack, Alan Rickman and Cuba Gooding Jr.
The first trailer for 'Precious' director Lee Daniels' new movie The Butler starring Forest Whitaker has rolled out online. It has always been assumed that Harvey Weinstein believes the film is one of his better chances of tasting Oscars success this season and the trailer certainly appears to confirm that. It stars Whitaker as Eugene Allen, the man who served eight presidents as the White House's head butler. It's over-the-top, patriotic and, well, Oscar bait.
In the mould as The King's Speech and The Iron Lady, the historical biopic is set for release on October 18th - just in time to be wafted under the nose of the Academy. As well as Whitaker returning to a leading role, 'The Butler' boasts one of the more spectacular casts of the year, including Robin Williams (Dwight Eisenhower), John Cusack (Richard Nixon), James Marsden (JFK), Liev Schreiber (Lydon B. Johnson), Alan Rickman (Reagan), Cuba Gooding Jr (Carter Wilson). David Oyelowo (Loius Gaines) and Oprah Winfrey (Gloria Gaines) are among the supporting cast though this one appears to be set up for Whitaker.
Watch 'The Butler' Trailer!
Speaking to Indiewire last year, Daniels hinted that his movie might be a little too focused on awards, "I'm trying to keep it [The Butler] PG13 which is not easy for me. It's very un-Precious and un-Paperboy... I can't go into my bag of tricks on this one [...] I felt like I directed the film in handcuffs and a muzzle," he said.

Cecil Gains is a devoted White House butler who grew up on a simple cotton farm where he and other black workers were not treated with any respect by their white counterparts. From a simple kitchen worker, he rises to be top butler to eight different presidents over the course of more than 30 years. Sworn to secrecy over the goings on at the White House, he serves the likes of Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and Lyndon B. Johnson with all the care that he has in spite of their differing policies and the suppression of his race across the country. He rejects his freedom fighter son's distaste at Cecil's job and never once wavers in his respect for his government. He merely stands back, silver platter in hand and watches the progression of racial equality until the day the country's first black president is finally inaugurated.
This is a story about loyalty and commitment based on the article by Wil Haygood, 'A Butler Well Served by This Election', about Eugene Allen; a real butler who showed his devotion to his job over the course of three decades while he and his fellow black civilians went from being the underdogs to top dog as he lives to see the election of President Barack Obama. It has been directed by Lee Daniels ('The Paperboy', 'Precious', 'Shadowboxer') and co-written by Danny Strong ('Game Change', 'Recount'), and has an incredible all-star ensemble cast. 'The Butler' is set to his theatres in the US on August 16th 2013.
Lee Daniels is clearly vying for Oscars glory with 'The Butler.'
The first trailer for 'Precious' director Lee Daniels' new movie The Butler starring Forest Whitaker has rolled out online and Harvey Weinstein's ambitions of taking this film all the way to the Oscars couldn't be more apparent. Whitaker stars as Eugene Allen, the man who served eight presidents as the White House's head butler.
The movie is clearly Oscar bait. Firstly, it's a typical Weinstein movie in the same mould as The King's Speech and The Iron Lady and secondly it's set for release on October 18th - just in time to be wafted under the nose of the Academy. Oh, and there's a pretty strong cast with plenty of Oscar winners and several up-and-coming stars. Robin Williams (Dwight Eisenhower), John Cusack (Richard Nixon), James Marsden (JFK), Liev Schreiber (Lydon B. Johnson), Alan Rickman (Reagan), Cuba Gooding Jr (Carter Wilson), David Oyelowo (Loius Gaines) and Oprah Winfrey (Gloria Gaines) are among the supporting cast though this one appears to be set up for Whitaker.
Lance Armstrong is facing numerous lawsuits relating to bonuses paid for his Tour de France wins.
In the wake of his highly publicized outing as a drugs cheat, disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong has sold his Austin estate to an oil-and-gas rights agent for an undisclosed amount. A deed of trust filed with Travis County last week showed Mr Al Koehler obtained a loan of $3.1 million to buy the property - the cyclist's home since 2004. The country tax rolls lists the property's value at around $3.9 million, though local real estate agents say the house was listed at $10 million. In an email to the American-Statesman, oil tycoon Koehler said he paid nothing close to that value, though it's unclear whether his sizeable loan will cover the full amount.
Mr Koehler is a found of Royalty Clearinghouse, which buys oil and gas royalties and mineral rights on behalf of clients, according to the Associated Press. Armstrong's spokesman Mark Higgins confirms the sale and said Lance plans to remain an Austin resident. The cyclist was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles in August and is now banned for life from sports. After an investigation spanning several years, he finally admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs during an interview with American television personality Oprah Winfrey.
It leaves Armstrong in a precarious situation financially, partly because of lost sponsorships and companies seeking money back, and also because of the damages paid to the cyclist in previous court cases. Last week, Armstrong asked a Texas court to dismiss a lawsuit by a Dallas promotions company seeking repayment of more than $12 million in bonuses paid for winning the Tour de France.

Oprah Winfrey is officially the most influential celeb around
Oprah Winfey’s decision to call it quits on her hugely popular chat show hasn’t seen her popularity wane, and neither has it seen her influential status diminish as she’s been voted the most influential celebrity according to Forbes.
The E-Poll Research saw 48% of people surveyed rate Winfrey as influential. Last year, she managed 49% of the vote, but a year is a long time when you’re in the public eye, and she’s staved off competition from people like Beyonce – who she recently interviewed in a high profile piece – to stay atop the list. But even though she’s quit the chat show, she hasn’t quit chatting. Her interview with Lance Armstrong despite his reluctance to talk to the media, was watched by 28 million people from around the world. Her OWN network has seen Prime-time ratings up 17% already this year. The online service ranks more than 7,500 celebrities based on 46 attributes, so with 48%, Winfrey will certainly be basking in this limelight. 'Lincoln' director Steven Spielberg came in second while Martin Scorsese was third.

Can the youngest ever Oscar Nominee, Quvenzhané Wallis upset the odds?
Considering she’s the shortest actress in the category, Quvenzhané Wallis represents the longest odds to win Best Actress at The Oscars come this Sunday.
Should the miniature force of nature – as she’s been called – win the award, she won’t have just thrown the betting form out the window, she’ll beat the previous youngest winner, Marlee Matlin, who was 21 when she was honored for 1986's Children of a Lesser God, by around 12-years.
"If I don't win, at least I was nominated. And if I do win, at least I was nominated—so either way it goes, I am still nominated," Quvenzhané said in an interview last Friday, when she was visiting New York. Wise words from one so young. Quvenzhané – and we have it on good authority, is pronounced ‘kwav-en-ja-nay’ – has been mixing it with the biggest of celebs at Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Rihanna encountered an angry male fan during her night out in London over the weekend, with pals Melissa Forde and Cara Delevingne. The singer was celebrating her debut collection for River Island at London Fashion Week, though her evening took a nasty took when an irate fan took aim her as she attempted to leave The Box nightclub.
According to TMZ.com, a man angry with her reconciliation with Chris Brown launched a bottle of Lucozade energy drink at Rihanna, narrowly missing her. The Bajan pop star's bodyguards and security team tried to chase the fan down, though the pop star fell against a metal shop shutter and grazed her knee in the melee. Photographs posted online show a cut on Rihanna's leg as she made her way down the Soho street.
Good pals Beyonce and Oprah Winfrey were together yesterday as the red carpet premiere of the superstar’s new documentary Life Is But A Dream at the Ziegfield Theater in New York. It’s the first of two engagements the pair have together, with Knowles and Winfrey also chatting together this week for Oprah’s Next Chapter, which airs this Saturday (February 16, 2013).
The Ziegfield first, and Oprah was on hand to have a brief chat with the former Destiny’s Child member about why she’d decided to open up her private life in the documentary. “I’ve been anticipating this moment … this is huge for me” said Beyonce of the documentary, which will be coming out to HBO. “I felt like it was time for people to see who I am….this is three years in the making, and once I saw my daughter I knew that was the ending to the story and this documentary.”
The film stems from lots of personal conversations that the singer recorded on her laptop over two years, and the star said she was aware it was a risk to put so much of herself on display. “I had to get the approval of my mother and Jay Z” she said to Oprah. “After giving birth I felt like a new woman I felt so much more brave… Mystique is important to me, but at some point it’s time and I’m ready.” Meanwhile, the New York Daily News offered a preview as to what expect this Saturday on Next Chapter, with Oprah reportedly asking questions about how many more children Be and Jay Z were going to have, to a miscarriage that was previously private. It looks like Beyonce’s baring all this week.
Beyonce has had arguably the most hectic month of her entire career, though she looked in tip-top condition at the New York premiere of her HBO documentary 'Life Is But A Dream,' on Tuesday evening (February 12, 2013). The R&B superstar wore a shimmering, sheer embellished Elie Saab gown with floral applique. The dress was debuted by a runway model at Saab's Spring 2012 Haute Couture show, though it looked as though it had been designed for Beyonce at the premiere.
Earlier in the day, Bey sat down with Oprah Winfrey for an episode of 'Oprah's Next Chapter,' which airs at 8pm on February 16, 2013. The queen of daytime television told OMG! Insider: "Beyonce shows the power of vulnerability in a way we've never seen anyone do. She opened herself up. She let us see her vulnerable side. She became for us not just this mythical goddess. She became a real woman. She shocked me. I was in tears," adding, "She did an amazing job . People are going to be amazed. What's going to happen now is that people are going to feel a connection to her that they wouldn't have felt before, because she shows us how real she is." Sounds intense.

OWN and Oprah Winfrey have been hit with a lawsuit by an ex-employee claiming she was the victim of discrimination having been replaced by a temp when she had to take medical leave for her pregnancy.
Oprah is very rarely seen in a bad light. She does an enormous amount for charities, she's built an enormous media empire up from scratch and has one of the most famous book clubs on the planet. However, now she and her TV network OWN have been hit with a lawsuit over alleged discrimination.
As the Hollywood Reporter states, Carolyn Hommel, who was senior director of scheduling and acquisitions, claims that despite glowing reports of her work in reviews (even being told that she may be in line for the Vice President role), when she was forced to take leave for medical reasons during her pregnancy, she was replaced by a temp. On returning to the office she claims to have been given reduced responsibilities, others being passed over to the temp, before gradually being phased out of meetings. A month after giving birth to her daughter she was then "laid-off" but encouraged to apply for the Vice President job. However, she was not given that role either. She claims her application was compromised by her ex-boss, Michael Garner.

Oprah Winfrey's OWN Network is being sued by a former employee, who claims she was sexually discriminated against when she fell pregnant, Hollywood Gossip has reported.
According to the report, Carolyn Hommel, a female former executive with the network, claims that not only was she discriminated against whilst working, but she was also fired simply because she was with child. The lawsuit Hommel filed on Friday (Feb 1) states that she was hired by OWN in 2010 as senior director of scheduling and acquisitions and was rising through the estimations of her peers and on course for being promoted to Vice President with OWN. That was until she fell pregnant of course, after which her numerous responsibilities were handed off to "temporary employees" and ultimately ended with her being fired from the company.
Her lawsuit goes on to explain that Carolyn's duties were being downplayed by her seniors to make her seem as though she was the weaker candidate for the sought-after vice president role and that her former boss, Michael Garner, fabricated her performance review to make it seem as if her "job duties and responsibilities appear less 'senior'." She was fired one month after giving birth before she could return from maternity leave, but told to reapply for the vice presidency, which she did do only to be turned down.

Although Rihanna spoke frankly with Oprah Winfrey back in August 2012, there was still a shroud of mystery for some time over whether or not Rihanna and Chris Brown were a couple again. Brown was convicted of assaulting Rihanna on the eve of the 2009 Grammy Awards. She was his girlfriend at the time, though they subsequently split.
Acutely aware of the public backlash against her reconciliation with Chris Brown, Rihanna is determined to stand by her decision to resurrect their relationship. Speaking to Josh Eells, the magazine’s contributing editor, she explains “I decided it was more important for me to be happy… I wasn't going to let anybody's opinion get in the way of that. Even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I'd rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it.” In a bid, perhaps, to allay the fears of her fans, concerned about her safety, Rihanna also stressed “He doesn’t have the luxury of f*cking up again. That’s just not an option… I wouldn’t have gone this far if I ever thought that was a possibility.”
The Sundance Film Festival has become a hub for some of the world's best documentaries to be showcased. Mariel Hemingway, the grand-daughter of the iconic American writer Ernest Hemingway. Her family's history has been carved by depression and ill mental health. Running From Crazy explores that part of her family's history, and had its premier at the Sundance Film Festival.
Ernest Hemingway killed himself two weeks before Mariel was born, one of her sisters died of an overdose in 1998 and her other sister has been in and out of institutions for a decade. Mariel herself has battled with depression but now, speaking to the Globe and Mail, she says she's through it. "Some people are like, 'Wow, [Running From Crazy is] a heavy title.' Well, I don't see it as a heavy title. I'm like, 'Dude, thank God.' Crazy's gone. . There's fun in my life and I'm joyful. But there was a time when I really was not. . But I truly am no longer depressed. It's gone. I can honestly say that it's been years. I laugh at myself now, which is fun."
With Academy Award winner Barabara Kopple directing and Oprah Winfrey as executive producer it's got some heavy-weight backing behind it. Working with Mariel was a dream for Kopple. "What Mariel has, I mean, she's the dream of a documentarian," she said, "because you sit at the table with her and talk to her, and everything comes out, because she has a higher purpose for it. She really wants to shed light on suicide and mental illness."
Paramount Studios and Jj Abrams' own production company, Bad Robot, have snapped up the rights to the tell-all Lance Armstrong book Cycle of Lies, the forthcoming account of Armstrong's meteoric rise, and catastrophic fall by New York Times reporter Juliet Macur, The Hollywood Report has announced.
Following Armstrong's interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which he admitted for the first time that he had used performance enhancing drugs during his time as a professional cyclist, it seems the world is caught up in Lance Armstrong-mania once again and Macur's yet to be published account of Armstrong's career is already in the developing stages to become a movie. The book itself details the major events of the disgraced cyclist's life, from his recovery from cancer and subsequent domination of cycling in which he won his record seven Tour de France victories, before then going on to explain the inquiries into his use of performance enhancing drugs.
The book itself wont be released until the summer, with publisher HarperCollins revealing that it plans on having the book released by June. The publishers signed up Macur back in November last year, with the journalist having written extensively on Armstrong's ups and down for the New York Times over the years.

Lance Armstrong confessed to doping throughout his extraordinary cycling career during an interview with Oprah Winfrey, taped on Monday (January 14, 2013). Though the interview will not be aired until Thursday, sources told the Associated Press that the seven time Tour-de-France winner admitting using performance-enhancing drugs when questioned by the Queen of Daytime Television.

Lance Armstrong will be quizzed by Oprah Winfrey on January 17, 2013 in what is being described as a 90-minute "no-holds-barred" interview. Winfrey will ask the disgraced cycling star to address the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency's report in which there was overwhelming evidence that he was directly involved in the most sophisticated doping program the sport of cycling has ever seen. Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour victories in October and speculation suggests he will come clean on Oprah's show.
The first question Oprah should ask - straight up - is whether he has ever taken performance enhancing drugs. Ok, so it's almost a non-question given the amount of evidence, but it's a chance to hear Armstrong confirm it for the first time. As The Guardian's William Fotheringham points out today, Oprah should also quiz Armstrong on the two substantial payments he made to the International Cycling Union during his racing career. Why did Armstrong make those payments? The interview will be streamed live around the world, as well as broadcast on Winfrey's OWN network in the U.S. It will air at 9pm eastern time, or 2am in the UK.
There is already discomfort surrounding Armstrong's choice of interviewer - Oprah is likely to give the cyclist an easy ride. Her interview with Olympic drugs cheat Marion Jones was hardly a grilling, and the majority probably sympathized with the doper afterwards. Kathy LeMond, the wife of the American Tour de France winner Greg LeMond tweeted, "Oprah I hope you get educated before the interview. I know people that can help you."

Dolly Parton rumours have flooded the Internet recently, and in case you didn't know, they fixated on her sexuality, as so many do these days. First off; no one should care if someone's gay or straight, as it has no bearing on what made them famous in the first place, and secondly, Dolly Parton has nullified these rumours in an interview.
The rumours alleged that Parton enjoyed a sexual relationship with one of her oldest friends, Judy Ogle. "Judy and I have been best friends since we were, like, in third and fourth grade," Parton, who has been married to her husband, Carl Dean, for 46 years, explained during the sitdown with ABC's Juju Chang. "I mean, I love her as much as I love anybody in the whole world. But we're not romantically involved." She went on to joke about how her and Oprah Winfrey - who was also subject to similar rumours because of her close friendship with Gayle King - couldn't have female buddies without being labelled as lesbian in the press. To be fair to her, it is a little ridiculous.
During the interview, Parton also amusingly noted that she once entered herself in a Dolly Parton drag queen contest and got the least applause of any of the contestants. "They just thought I was some little short gay guy," she laughed.
Dolly Parton rumors have been building for the past couple of weeks, suggesting the country legend may be in a secret relationship with her best friend Judy Ogle. The speculation echoed that surrounding Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King last year and - as in that case - has proven to be false.
Dolly set the record straight on her sexual orientation during an interview with Nightline, saying she was well aware of the rumors though deemed them ultimately untrue. "Judy and I have been best friends since we were like in the third and fourth grade. We still just have a great friendship and relationship and I love her as much as I love anybody in the whole world, but we're not romantically involved." We're not quite sure where this story came from in the first place, considering Dolly has been married to the same man for 46 years. The singer made the comparison between herself and Oprah, noting, "Like Gayle, her friend, Judy, my friend ... [people] just think that you just can't be that close to somebody."
Dolly releases her new motivational memoir 'Dream More' on November 27, 2012. The book covers her childhood in the poor area of Sevierville, Tennessee, to her eventual rise to fame. In it, she reveals how she modelled the signature voluptuous look on the town tramp!

There are a few women that seem utterly infallible, robust and lively. They seem to have an ardent love of life itself and an enthusiasm that seems unfailing. It feels in many ways, happily, that Doris Day will never die, nor will Maggie Thatcher (for very different reasons) and nor will Oprah Winfrey. It is perhaps this larger than life trait that meant both the crowd and her best friend were shocked and upset by the news that she'd had a breast cancer scare not long ago, according to the New York Times.
The media and business mogul took to the stage at her conference filled with 5000 fans and colleagues, primarily to speak about her OWN empire and to address the criticism she's been receiving for the depleting rates and sales since she quit her daily talk show 18 months ago, but also to take the opportunity to share her cancer scare that she'd been through the previous week. Gayle King it seemed, as she welled up, was as unaware of the scare as the rest of the audience, despite being Oprah's best friend.
The conference moved swiftly on to Oprah defending her empire and talking about the future. However, Janice Peck, author of "The Age of Oprah" said, "I think she's scared, even though she's very, very rich and she's always going to be very, very rich. The possibility of failure, it's quite scary."

Justin Bieber has spoken of the downsides of his international fame, telling Oprah Winfrey on her Next Chapter programme that he only has three close friends. The 19-year-old Canadian star - who has reportedly split from his girlfriend Selena Gomez - says he is only human and can still feel alone at times.
Bieber explained, "I really don't have a lot of friends. I have three close friends that I'll fly out to see me or that I'll iChat with or call. I get days where I'm just down and gloomy." Though he's split from Selena, Bieber might be back into the dating game pretty soon, given that he wants to get married before he's 25. "Rethink that will you?" said Oprah, attempting to convince him that he was too young to tie the knot, "I should probably listen to you," replied Justin. Despite their parting of ways, Bieber and Gomez have reunited multiple times over the past couple of days, most recently at an eatery in Encino, California, on November 19, 2012. A source told US Weekly magazine, "Justin reached out first and hasn't stopped reaching out. Their main problem is Justin has a wandering eye."
Oprah's interview with Bieber will air on the OWN network on November 25, 2012.

The couple apparently got back together after Rihanna confessed her love for the singer to Oprah Winfrey and Chris Brown left his model girlfriend Karrueche Tran. They had originally split after Brown was arrested and charged for domestic violence in 2009 which left Rihanna with severe bruising to the face. As a result of this controversial reunion, many people have been left unimpressed by the message that the relationship puts across particularly to young girls and victims of domestic abuse. The title of the song is a clear indication of how the couple feel about being judged, as is the upcoming album it is taken from, 'Unapologetic', which is set for release on Monday (November 19th 2012).
Rihanna and Chris Brown have previously worked together on the song 'Birthday Cake' which was released on her last album 'Talk That Talk'. Like 'Nobody's Business', it is a song of romance, however with a few particularly crude differences. As for the couple being back together, Rihanna has denied such allegations, insisting on 'The Ellen Degeneres Show' that she is still single though open to the idea of a relationship.
Cheryl Cole is reportedly mulling over a deal that would see her become Britain's answer to Oprah Winfrey. According to the Daily Star, the Girls Aloud star has been offered a lucrative contract to host her own chat show on Sky1, starting next year.
A member of Cole's team explained, "Sky1 are desperate to get Cheryl to sign up.They've been in talks for a while and believe they will have wrapped up the deal within the next month. They think she could be the UK's Oprah because of her reputation as the nation's sweet-heart and are willing to pay big bucks to get her on board." Well, that's all fine and dandy, except, Winfrey has a considerable talent for connecting with her audience and getting the best out of her subjects, does Cheryl? Her people certainly seem to think so, with the insider adding, "They want the show to be emotional and confessional, not just another run-of-the-mill celebrity show." A source added, "Cheryl's people think she would come across brilliantly."
The television talk show is a risky market, especially in the UK, with several notable presenters failing spectacularly in the discipline. Davina Mccall was easily one of the most popular presenters around when she began hosting chat show 'Davina' in 2006, though BBC executives gave her the boot within two months.

Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films are developing a new drama in conjunction with HBO. As yet untitled, the show will tell the tale of the first black president of a liberal arts club, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The central character is “thrust into national headlines,” along with his family, “forcing them to present an idyllic public façade, all while engaging in agonizing personal battles and struggling with dark obsessions.”
The exact nature of those dark obsessions, of course, is not for us to know, just yet but we’re excited to watch the show take shape. The playwright Thomas Bradshaw (The Bereaved, Southern Promises, Dawn) is on board as a writer and to act as an executive producer, alongside Oprah herself and Harpo’s Kate Forte. Bradshaw, 32, is already the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and is a professor at Northwestern.

In 1985, Simon quietly travelled to South Africa to record tracks for his next album, invited by local musicians. But he and was shocked by racial tension he saw between blacks and whites there, and afterwards was caught off-guard by criticism from anti-Apartheid leaders who said his visit violated the boycott.
Simon argued that he wanted to avoid politics and collaborate with fellow musicians. For them, working with a world-class artist was a chance in a million. And Ladysmith Black Mambazo leader Shabalala says Simon was the first white man he'd ever hugged.

As Brandeis University professor Morrie Schwartz's body deteriorated from Lou Gehrig's Disease, former student Albom decided to record the man's thoughts on an array of topics. If the movie is anything like the book, then Morrie sounds like the world's foremost pop psychologist.

Whether this was Spielberg's most desperate attempt to win an Oscar (didn't work: The Color Purple received a whopping 11 Oscar nominations and won precisely zero) or a genuine kinship with the black women of the 1910s we'll never really know. But Purple is a solid enough film, though it lacks true inspiration and gets a little wandering and lost after an hour of running time (and you've still got 1 1/2 more to go!).
