The jazz saxophonist suffered a cardiac arrest and died on 11 June (15), and his famous friends gathered for a tribute event at Riverside Church.

Ono headlined the sombre memorial as she recalled memories of her five-decade friendship with Coleman, while holding a scarf she had been knitting for the jazz great.

Another highlight was an improvised duet between Glover and DeJohnette.

Pharoah Sanders, Ravi Coltrane and pianists Cecil Taylor, Geri Allen and Jason Moran also attended the memorial.

Following the service, Coleman was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, where other jazz greats like Miles Davis and Duke Ellington lie.
