When a band can breathe both melancholy and uplifting music into one composition, it's a rather impressive feat. But it's all in a day's work for Outfit, whose single 'On The Water On The Way' just manages to elate and haunt with careful layers of flawless instrumentation.

The Liverpool five-piece seamlessly blend together electronic rhythms and drawn-out vocals with an array of unique digital nuances to create a complex mood with 'On The Water On The Way'; our favourite single from their second full-length album 'Slowness'. 'The song is about putting on a front to save face. Pretending not to care, or that everything is fine. Smiling through the storm', says frontman Andrew P. Hunt.

'On The Water On The Way' is an eerie electronic number with a steady rhythm and a synth backing reminiscent of music from a third generation video game. When the breathy indie vocals kick in, it becomes an uplifting, dreamy number that morphs and builds into an all-consuming cinematic soundscape. It's not all easy listening though; the screeching guitars and tinny whistles, underlined by a chilly minor line, give it a dark edge but it nonetheless remains as hypnotic a piece of music as any from the talented UK group.

This from the band that explored the complexities of gender fluidity with the album's first release 'Genderless', and who became a fixture on BBC Radio 6 Music with 'Framed'. All songs feature on 'Slowness', which was recorded across New York, London and their home city of Liverpool, before being released in June 2015 through Memphis Industries.

Alongside the release of 'Slowness', they've also been busy on the road, completing a European tour in September which culminated in a show at London's Electrowerkz, and they even enjoyed a stint at Latitude Festival in July. This month, they supported the legendary Gary Numan at his UK show in  Manchester, plus they've just had their first US show with CMJ in New York.

Stay tuned for more from this sensational five-man 'Outfit'.
