Paloma Faith thinks it's ''strange'' people compare One Direction to The Beatles.

The 'Just Be' singer has defended her musician friend Jake Bugg's comments about the 'Little Things' hitmakers - who he called ''terrible'' for not penning their own songs - and thinks the legendary band were such ''brilliant'' songwriters they are incomparable.

She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: ''Well I think if you're comparing someone to the Beatles then ... yeah. The main thing about The Beatles was that they were brilliant songwriters, that's why they were so successful, so it's a strange comparison to make.''

Paloma was nominated for the British Album and British Female awards at the BRITs last month and although she left the ceremony empty handed, the singer felt ''pleased'' to have even been in the running.

She said: ''It feels pleasing. Just really nice to be acknowledged to contributing something to British music.''

Paloma was also invited to perform at the BAFTA film awards, where she sung INXS track 'Never Tear Us Apart', and was ''taken aback'' by the A-list celebrities at the event.

She gushed: ''I didn't know who was going to be there to be honest. I sort of went there without any expectations and then was completely taken aback by the sheer amount of amazing people under one roof there was.''

Paloma performed an exclusive set at the first ever American Express Platinum Cashback Gig at the iconic Union Chapel in London on March 3 in support of War Child.
