British singer Patrick Wolf used a performance on his current U.S. tour to slam California lawmakers over their decision to impose a ban on same-sex marriage.
The star took to the stage at New York's Highline Ballroom on Tuesday (23Jun09) and took his chance to slam the American state's Proposition 8 legislation - which saw homosexual unions made illegal just six months after they were declared valid.
And he asked gay and straight revellers alike to ponder how they'd feel if they weren't allowed to marry their partners.
He quizzed the crowd, "Who here wants to get married someday? Who here wants to get married to someone of the same sex? Now what about everyone out there in heterosexual relationships… how would you feel if you got married and then six months later you were told your marriage was illegal?"
Wolf, who is openly gay, went on to compare the California law to the U.K.'s now defunct Section 28 clause - which saw the discussion on homosexuality banned from classrooms.
