RIP Patty Duke: Actress And Advocate Passes Away Aged 69

Patty Duke has passed away in hospital at the age of 69, according to her manager and a recent statement issued by her son Sean Astin. The Oscar winning actress was a long-term television favourite and a strong advocate for education surrounding mental health issues.

Patty Duke has died in hospital

'The Patty Duke Show' died yesterday (March 30th 2016) in a Coeur D'Alene, Idaho hospital from sepsis caused by a ruptured intestine. The cause of death was confirmed to the LA Times by Duke's manager Holly Shelton, and a further statement acknowledging her sad passing was issued on Facebook by her son, 'The Lord of the Rings' star Sean Astin.

Valley Of The Dolls Review

Of all the camp classics available for your derision and laughter, Valley of the Dolls is surely one of the campiest, the kind of movie whose promotional stills are reproduced on T-shirts for sale in your finer gay gift shops, the kind of movie that has close to 30 memorable quotes listed online, the kind of movie so delightfully absurd that even Roger Ebert (of all people) was moved to pen an even more campy farce of a sequel.

A lurid '60s sensation about three young women who come New York to make it on big, bad Broadway, Jacqueline Susann's steamy bestseller was rushed to Hollywood and put on the screen fast. The result is one of those unwatchable/irresistible messes that's even more fun once you memorize the dialog and sing along with the musical numbers.

Kimberly Review

Here's the story of the world's biggest slut. When the titular Kimberly (Anwar) comes to America for a spell, she takes on four sad sack best friends to teach them how to row (you know, boats). In a matter of weeks, she's sleeping with all of them, and before long, she's pregnant. And get this: The four guys agree to share parenting duties (nah, she won't bother to find out who the father is). The story is completely asinine and baffling (the qualifying race for an annual regatta occurs nine months before the race?), but what's really special is just how insulting Kimberly is, no matter how progressive your mindset might be. Atrocious.

The Miracle Worker (1962) Review

Excellent

You'd have to be a hard-assed bastard indeed not to be touched in some way by The Miracle Worker, the film version of Helen Keller's story -- the blind, deaf, and mute girl we all tragically made jokes about when we were kids. Anne Bancroft plays Helen's patient teacher Annie, who uses the virtues of tough love to teach the stubborn and spoiled Helen (Patty Duke) to understand sign language. Notable not just for its earnestness and two outstanding performances (both won Oscars) -- it's also got one of the longest catfights in cinema history.
