Michael Douglas described his late mother, Diana Douglas, as a “class act” during a recent appearance at a press screening of his soon-to-be-released movie, Ant-Man, on Monday (13th July). Diana died earlier this month at the age of 92 after losing her battle with cancer.

Right, so I’m usually the first to hop on the bandwagon for anything Marvel and MCU-related, but their latest stunt is just plain annoying. There’s teasing and then there’s just being a pain and the teeny tiny trailer for Ant-Man, which debuted this Friday, falls into the latter category. See for yourself. Or try to see because I guarantee you this 17-second clip will have you squinting and full screen-ing the youtube player in frustration.

Ant-Man. Let the weird begin.

Other than those teeny tiny (HA. HA.) complaints, there’s really nothing at all wrong with the clip. That we can see. Don’t worry though, a full-sized trailer (and hopefully they mean that in more ways than one) will debut on January 6 during the premiere of Marvel’s Agent Carter. 2015 is looking very Marvelous right now.

Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' is currently flying through it second season, amassing between 4 and 5 million viewers per episode. That number is about to explode, however, with the recent announcement that the sixth episode, 'A Fractured House', will contain the first trailer for 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron'. If that news wasn't enough, the announcement came via Marvel's official Twitter page, with an accompanying picture of some of the cast.

So Ant-Man finally has a director and his name is Peyton Reed, the search is over. The announcement may come as surprise to some, as Reed's name seemed to be a pretty late addition to the race, but Marvel clearly saw enough in the Bring It On director to entrust him with their most contraversial project to date. He might not be that well known name, unlike Adam McKay who turned down the position last week, but the Reed does have some pretty apt credentials, which may mean the troubled film has fallen into good hands. Now he's officially in, let's get to know Peyton Reed a little better.

Reed has quite the diverse CV, with credits ranging from animated series to big screen comedies. His career began in television, working on the the animated ‘Back to the Future’ series in the early 90s, directing the live action sequences. He would also go on to help create the Universal studios attraction ‘Back To The Future: The Ride’ based on the franchise.

It’s sad but true. Edgar Wright has departed Marvel’s Ant-Man movie with a new director to be announced shortly. Not much was divulged about Wright’s exit, but he and Marvel released a short joint statement on the Marvel website stating it was “due to differences in their vision of the film”.

Here’s the statement in full: “Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Marvel's "Ant-Man" due to differences in their vision of the film. Bad news ant fans; Ant-Man has been subject of a major release-date shift. With the untitled Superman-Batman pic moving to May 6, 2016, Marvel’s “Ant-Man” has taken the opportunity to move into its old slot, meaning it will be released on July 17, 2015.

Michael Douglas has signed on to do his first Marvel film and will star as Hank Pym in the upcoming movie adaptation of Ant-Man. As revealed by the Marvel website, Douglas will join director Edgar Wright and star Paul Rudd, who plays Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, in the movie due out next year.

Hank Pym first appeared in Tales to Astonish #27 in January 1962 and was the first man to assume the identity of Ant-Man in the comic books, going on to assume other identities as the comic series continued, including the size-changing Giant-Man and Goliath, as well as the insect-themed Yellowjacket and briefly the Wasp, the alter ego of his crime-fighting wife Janet van Dyne. Pym was also one of the founding members of The Avengers and has regularly found himself fighting Ultron for the sake of humanity, so don't be surprised to see him tied into the next Avengers film too.

Anchorman 2: The Lengend Continues has been lighting up cinema screens since Wednesday (18 December) this week and looks set to continue its impressive run into next week and emerge as the top grossing film of the weekend. Having opened strongly mid-week, the reunited Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner have maintained their steady rise to the top.

Hollywood funny man Paul Rudd has landed his most unlikely role to date.

The 44 year-old is set to play the miniature superhero 'Ant-Man' in the next Marvel Comics film adaption.

Rudd will play scientist Henry "Hank" Pym who creates a chemical substance to dramatically changes his size and communicate with insects in order to fight crime, Variety first reported.

In the last few decades, Marvel Comics has turned a comic book empire into a movie empire, and they continue to grow. Their newest character to move from the page to the big screen will be Ant-Man, the company announced. Any time Marvel casts a new superhero, there is uproar, but this time the critics seem to have been silenced. Paul Rudd, of Anchorman and Clueless fame, is reportedly in talks for the role, according to Variety.

Ant-Man is not an especially well-known character in the comic book world, but it appears (at least recently) there is not much Marvel can do wrong. According to MTV, there have been so many different incarnations of Ant-Man, so it leaves a mystery over how Rudd will play the character. For instance, the original Ant-Man invented the technology used to create his powers, but another version has him stealing that technology.

Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner are back as everyone's favourite news team in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. It's been almost 10 years since 2004's unparalleled look into the inner workings of local news stations in the 1970's first gave us Ron Burgundy and the rest of the Channel 6 news team and almost a decade later it seems as though they still now how to keep it classy.

On the whole, the early feedback for the much-anticipated sequel s mostly positive. There are a few exceptions of course, with Betsy Sharkey of the Los Angeles Times leading the negative reviews. Skarkey, like most of us, is happy that Anchorman is back, but ultimately felt let down by Burgundy's second outing. She wrote, "While I'm glad Anchorman is back - we need a little levity in this year of heavy films - I do wish it were better."

Paul Giamatti is not the sort of actor who gets typecast easily, his first major success was his role in 'American Splendor' in 2001 for which he won an award for Best Breakthrough Performance from National Board of Review of Motion Pictures, among many other nominations, for portraying comic book author Harvey Pekar. His success burned brighter when he won more than 10 accolades for playing depressed wino Miles Raymond in 2004 comedy drama 'Sideways' as well as being nominated for a Golden Globe, and he was later nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in boxing flick 'Cinderella Man' opposite Russell Crowe. Next year will no doubt bring in a few shiny new prizes for his latest projects, many of which are definite must-sees.

2013 has seen the Oscar nominee get involved with a variety of upcoming movie projects including animation, romance and superhero action - and we have to say we're glad to see this gifted artiste stamping some of his humour and intensity all over our movie theatres.

Peter Landesman's directorial feature debut 'Parkland' is due for release imminently (October 4th 2013) and sees Giamatti portray the often forgotten Abraham Zapruder; the amateur photographer who unwittingly videoed the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy and whose footage has been seen by millions across the globe. On researching the role, Giamatti explained in an interview that there was a lot of information about Zapruder in the script, but he also learned a lot about his speech and body language from footage of him before and after the assassination. He will star alongside Zac Efron, Marcia Gay Harden and Billy Bob Thornton.

The big news this week is that a reported $20 million paycheque has lured Liam Neeson back for a third Taken movie. There's no word yet on the plot, but does it really matter? Seth Rogen's comedy This Is The End has received favourable reviews from critics. Released in U.S. cinemas today (28th June) it has already been moderately successful in the U.S 

Of the numerous critics who praised the fim, Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian said the film is "just one great big goofy joke". Those more critical have said the film, whilst amusing, is a collaboration of bodily functions, "grossness" and "middling". Put in even simpler terms the film embodies the crude humour in which Rogen thrives.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues' trailer was released today and has been met with widespread excitement by comedy fans. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues follows the story of 70's newsreader Ron Burgundy and his group of hideous (yet hilarious) co-anchors. Ferrell stars as Ron, whilst Paul Rudd (Friends), Steve Carell (The Office) and David Koechner (The Office) play the rest of the team, Brian, Brick and Champ. The group first graced our screens in 2004. Christina Applegate (Up All Night) will feature as Ron's love interest Veronica. 

In this instalment the group of badly dressed misfits have encountered the 80's. Ron has disappeared into obscurity only to be picked to host a new 24 hour news station. A series of farcical and not at all P.C. events occur. 

Appearing in cameo roles are actors Liam Neeson (Taken) and Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones). Comedy friends of the four main actors who also play a part include Tina Fey, Sacha Baron Cohen and Jim Carey.

Jennifer Aniston stripping in theWe're The Millerstrailer has predictably dominated all talk of Rawson Marshall Thurber's new comedy movie this week, though it's worth pointing out that this thing may actually be pretty good. Aniston strips down for Jason Sudeikis in the trailer and the pair become bound together on a doomed trip to Mexico to smuggle drugs back into the U.S. for a mobster - played by a horrendously miscast Ed Helms, it seems.

Sudeikis' character David forms a fake family made up of Aniston, Emma Roberts and Will Poulter who set off to Mexico in the hope of avoiding suspicion at the border. The comedy actor is always good value for money and steals the trailer (apart of Aniston stripping of course) when he realises how much marijuana he has to haul back to America, telling his boss, "This is not a smidge, you got me moving enough weed to kill Willie Nelson man!."

At the end of the clip, Will Poulter gives us a word-perfect a cappella rendition of TLC's Waterfalls, before the original song closes things out. We're the Millers certainly looks funnier than Horrible Bosses and wouldn't have to do much to be a bigger commercial hit than Wanderlust, Aniston's 2012 film with Paul Rudd that grossed just $17.5 million domestically after receiving poor reviews.

The second trailer for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues has rolled out online, though, uh, it’s not too different from the first one. Once again, the Channel 4 crew approach the camera and attempt to deliver their very best catchphrases. “Jesus, McArthur, Jay-Z—the great ones always return, and when they do, one thing's for sure: Their hair will be perfect,” says the narrator before David Koechner, Paul Rudd, Will Ferrell confidently deliver their lines. Of course, Steve Carell’s Brick Tamland messes the whole thing up, offering a rather weak “Happy Easter,” before trying, “Always make sure the parents are around before you hug children.”

As the excitement builds for the Anchorman sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, another trailer for the film was released. You can check out the second trailer, featuring the beloved cast of Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Vince Vaughn and Steve Carell. But we already knew they were in it and, exciting as that prospect is, the cameos, which have been announced recently, make this movie look even better. Viewers will get appearances by actors like Kanye West, Kristen Wiig, Amy Poehler, Jim Carrey, Tina Fey and Harrison Ford, New York Daily News reports.

And the cameos just keep coming. After Kanye West, busy as he is, wrapped his scenes in New York last week, there was another surprising appearance on set – namely an actor, sporting a fro and the appropriate 70s duds, who looked suspiciously like singer/rapper Drake. Apparently the "Take Care" performer will be the latest star in the constellation already appearing in this film. Not only that, but the Daily News also posted several pictures of stars Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate taken during shooting. They look fierce, they look ready to go, but most of all, they look, unsurprisingly, very 70s. And if nothing else, the stills make it obvious that Anchorman 2 will definitely feature some excellent hairdos.

Kanye West appears to have landed himself a cameo in the Anchorman sequel after Hollywood.com reported he was spotted filming with Christina Applegate and Paul Rudd on a downtown Atlanta rooftop. It's safe to assume Anchorman 2 was the movie being filmed, with Kanye thought to be making a very brief cameo.

The eyewitness said, "he was quite afraid of heights and required an umbrella for shade most of the time he was on the roof." The Anchorman 2 production began in Atlanta in the past few weeks filming scenes in Woodruff Park and the surrounding areas, many of which have been captured by the prying eyes of the paparazzi. Writer and producer Will Ferrell is apparently a long-time hero of Kanye's, having included his dialogue from Blades of Glory in his song N*ggas In Paris. Following his infamous Taylor Swift/MTV VMA's controversy, Kanye compared himself to Ron Burgundy in a Twitter rant. 

The sighting comes just 24 hours after Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were see beating up co-star Sacha Baron Cohen with crowbars! The rumors are that Vince Vaughn and Luke Wilson have also filmed very brief performances at the Atlanta set, while Nicole Kidman will be featured in a "secret" un-credited role, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Harrison Ford will be a news anchor in the new movie.

It’s official - Nicole Kidman has shot an uncredited cameo for the upcoming Will Ferrell flick Anchoman: The Legend Continues. Yep, you guessed it, that’s the sequel to the hilarious (imho) Anchorman. Kidman is adding her name to an already pretty impressive cast. Along with the original stars Will Ferrell, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd, Harrison Ford himself is going to make a brief appearance as well. Looks like Ron Burgundy’s crew is growing by the day. Can you imagine what that set must be like during filming? It’s no surprise Kidman would be eager to jump on this particular bandwagon.

This isn’t Kidman’s only dabble in the comedy world of late. In 2011, she shot a cameo in Adam Sandler’s Just Go With It. Apparently these kinds of lighthearted roles are simply in her blood. Hopefully you’re all excited for the Anchorman sequel and for Kidman’s appearance as well. The movie is currently still in production and the release date has been set for December 20th this year. That’ll certainly be one holiday flick to look out for.

Rihanna smacks Cera - yes, Michael Cera - in Seth Rogen's raunchy new comedy 'This Is The End' and it's a real good smack. A new red band trailer for the movie was released earlier this week, which features the R&B superstar whacking the indie-actor and cursing at him after he makes a move at a party thrown by James Franco. Moments later, the celebrities are all faced with an apocalypse, which kind of makes things a whole lot more complicated.

You've probably come to realise that the movie is packed full of hip young actors and actresses, and the supporting cast list includes the likes of Jason Segel, Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill, Mindy Kaling, Danny McBride, Kevin Hart and, wait for it, Emma Watson. And they're all playing themselves. A pre-production rumor suggested Daniel Radcliffe would also form part of the cast, though it never came to fruition.

It's looking likely to be standard Rogen fare - he co-wrote the movie with his long-time friend Evan Goldberg, whom he wrote Superbad and Pineapple Express. Made on an modest budget of $25 million, it's likely that 'This Is The End' will be another success for the comedy-writing duo.

We’re not sure exactly how long Paul Rudd and Tina Fey spent making Admission but the general consensus is that both stars could have spent their time much better elsewhere. The comedy, about a college admissions officer and her annual recruitment drive (plus, of course, an underlying story of the curveballs that life throws us on our unending quest for happiness), hasn’t gone down well with the critics and it looks as though Admission is going to sink without a trace.

It all looked so good on paper. Fey is flavour of the month, especially since her Golden Globes stint with Amy Poehler went so well; Paul Rudd is also always a popular choice and the movie’s directed by Academy Award nominated director Paul Weitz, the man responsible for About A Boy. The reality, though, was a paper-thin movie that simply couldn’t get the best out of its two co-stars. “ I'd see Tina Fey and Paul Rudd in anything, but this is pushing it. Admission is so slight that a breeze could flatten it,” wrote Peter Travers of Rolling Stone magazine, whilst Mary F Pois described it as “Another formulaic spin on Hollywood's 21st century discovery, the mom-rom-com, with its disagreeable underlying messages about women, careers and motherhood,” in TIME magazine.

It’s not all bad for Fey and Rudd, though they do appear to have wasted their talents on this movie, somewhat. It seems that they are “fun to watch” (New York Times) but on this occasion, it’s just not enough to get the plaudits rolling in.

There’s been a whole bunch of buzz around Tina Fey’s new movie, Admission. Right now, Fey is one of those comedians that can do no wrong, it seems. Her Golden Globes presenting stint with Amy Poehler went down a storm and had many viewers crying out for her to take on the Oscars, too. So surely, her new movie Admission (filmed between the penultimate and the last season of her hit comedy 30 Rock), co-starring Paul Rudd, will also be a huge hit, right?

Not if the critics have anything to do with it, it seems. Admission premiered on March 6, 2013 in New York City and thus far, it has garnered far less critical acclaim that we expected. Tina Fey CAN do wrong, it would appear. The comic tale, focused on Fey’s character Portia, a university admissions officer has ben dismissed by Variety’s reviewer Peter Debruge, who writes “What appears on paper to be an ideal three-dimensional, morally complex role for the quick-witted comedienne backfires in practice, relying on Fey to be funny in a movie that works better serious.” Similarly, Todd McCarthy of Hollywood Reporter writes “the misguided central characters emerge, in the end, as less likeable than they ought to be.”

It remains to be seen whether the likeable nature of the actors themselves will be enough to carry this comedy through the negative press reception. Fey will be hoping that she can pull off the same feat as Melissa McCarthy, whose comedy Identity Thief recently defied a raft of negative reviews to hit the top spot in the box office chart.

The 2013 Tribeca Festival has revealed its line-up for the forthcoming event, the film festival rising from humble origins in 2002 to become one of the largest in America – as proven by the appearance of some star names in its line-up of films this year, including Paul Rudd, Paul Giamatti and Ethan Hawke, among others.

Among those notable among the glut of announcements for the festival, which takes place from April 17^th until April 28^th in Manhattan, is Almost Christmas, which stars Giamatti and Rudd. The film sees the pair star as two good for nothing types who come up with a get rich quick scheme for Christmas, namely selling Christmas trees. There’s an issue with this though – Rudd’s character has just stolen Giamatti’s wife. Conflict awaits.

Elsewhere, Hawke is starring in the third installment of the Before… films. Before Sunrise came out in 1995 with the second, Before Sunset, coming out in 2004. Now Before Midnight is going to be screening in Tribeca, with the two main characters Jesse and Celine (played by Hawke and Delpy) moving to Europe whilst they continue their usual on again off again deep meaningful relationship thing. Another interesting one is Adult World, which sees Emma Roberts character have to take a job at a sex shop, where she encounters the eccentric writer played by John Cusack.

It's box office takings currently stand at over $71 million, and now 'This Is 40' is set to test itself on the UK market, with the film out on general release today (February 14, 2013). The sequel to the film Knocked Up, This Is 40 once again stars Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann, the couple now getting used to hitting the big 40 and dealing with their work and kids, Sadie and Charlotte.

The film's success domestically was despite a hit and miss run of reviews from American critics, and if it's to have an impact on the UK it looks like it's going to have to overcome a similar wave of non-consensus. On the one hand you have The Guardian writing "This is terrifically assured work from Judd Apatow. And most importantly, funny". Then there's Digital Spy, who write "Apatow adopts a leisurely pace, but this is a story about middle-age after all and when characters are this much fun, you won't be watching the time go by."

Yet on the other hand there's a few big hitting negative reviews. "Middle-aged, middle-class and, if we're frank, a little middling and 'medium soft', the uneven This Is 40 indulges its flabby excess of subplots, but is redeemed by some genuine belly laughs" comments Film4. The Daily Telegraph is equally dismissive, writing "Every scene feels like an airbrushed composite of dozens of rambling takes, and 133 minutes is drainingly long for a story this sitcom-slight." So is it going to be a success? If the critics are anything to go by . who knows.

The teaser trailer for Samsung’s Super Bowl ad may have taken a sly dig at Apple’s attempts to take them to court for copyright infringement but the actual ad itself left well alone and simply focused on Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and Bob Odenkirk. The full Samsung Galaxy ‘Next Big Thing’ advert could well cause problems in its own little way, of course, because it was, quite simply, hilarious and funny adverts make people warm to the products that they’re selling.

Realising that they’ve both been summoned to Samsung’s headquarters to talk about the ‘Next Big Thing,’ and both thinking that they ARE the next big thing, Paul and Seth spend a few minutes insulting each other (“wow, I have never seen you this excited about something that isn’t food” says Rudd to Rogen) before they get called into the board room, where they pitch a bunch of spurious ad ideas to Odenkirk, the Samsung rep. Of course, there’s the odd reference to some of the features of the Galaxy phone, along the way (Seth takes a photo of Paul and then retouches it, saying “I can make you look like you’re still in your 40s”).

Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen are the stars of Samsung’s Next Big Thing Super Bowl ad.

Or rather, they’re not the stars. Or they are the stars, who are acting as not the stars… it’s all a bit meta. It’s also pretty funny, but then again, you can’t expect anything less of such a huge production can you? Yes, we imagine Samsung paid quite the tab for this star-studded affair, but ‘tis the season after all. Did we mention that Lebron James is also it it?

The ad is such a big deal apparently that not only did Samsung tease it beforehand, but they also released the full, two-minute version of the thing. Oh, and it also promotes some of Samsung's products too, such as the Galaxy Note. Did we mention that LeBron James is in it? The entire clip feels more like an Saturday Night Live skit rather than an ad to be honest, but then again, that was probably part if the clever marketing team’s idea. Those guys like getting into your head and making you subconsciously want things, we’ve heard. Come to think of it, those Galaxy Note things are looking pretty sweet.

Dame Helen Mirren and Paul Rudd shared a passionate embrace last night left the audience, host and other guest laughing but stunned with their antics as they discussed on-screen kisses on the episode of The Graham Norton Show that aired last night (Feb 1).

Recalling his time spent kissing Jack Nicholson (it was part of a movie), the Oscar-winning actress asked Rudd to recreate the scene from 2010's How Do You Know (in which Nicholson stared as Rudd's father) using her as the kiss recipient. Needless to say Rudd gladly obliged, but how often does an opertunity like that come up? Both looked pretty pleased with themselves too after the kiss (naturally), with Mirren gladly wiping her lipstick from Rudd's mouth post-lip lock, leaving a flu-ridden co-guest Leslie Mann clearly taken aback (and probably a little envious too) whilst the audience and host howled with laughter.

The Graham Norton show is well known for it's out of the blue antics, as is Mirren when she appears on talk shows. During her last talk show appearance on Jonathan Ross' show, the actress admitted to taking LSD in her youth, although made sure to reiterate it was her first and last time of doing so.

Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen star in a hilarious new teaser trailer for Samsung, ahead of the main Super Bowl advert they’ll be running at the weekend. In the ad, they take a subtle (but not so subtle we didn’t notice, guys) pop at Apple, who have filed a number of patent infringement lawsuits against Samsung, accusing them of copying design elements of the iPhone and iPad.

In the teaser ad, Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen are being briefed on what they can and cannot allow in the main advert. They are told by the man from Samsung (Breaking Bad’s Bob Odenkirk) that they aren’t allowed to use the phrases ‘Super Bowl’ or ‘San Francisco 49ers’ or ‘Baltimore Ravens.’ When asked why not and who might actually object to the use of the names, the response is “Everybody, nobody. Who knows.” Their solution is to refer to the game as the Big Plate, featuring the San Francisco 50 minus 1-ers and the Baltimore Black Birds. The advert might not specifically mention the Apple lawsuits but we’re pretty certain that’s what Samsung are getting at here. And you know what? It’s pretty funny. Sorry, Apple.

The teaser has already generated over 1.7 million views on YouTube since it was posted yesterday; such is the power of Super Bowl’s advertising slots. The Super Bowl happens on Sunday and will feature half time entertainment from Beyonce. And possibly the rest of Destiny’s Child. Or possibly not.

Ok, so we know you fickle bunch want to know who the Golden Globes' best dressed stars were for 2013. You don't give a damn about Argo winning Best Picture, or Ben Affleck winning Best Director right? You want to know who got it right on the red carpet, and we don't blame you.

One thing particularly apparent at the Golden Globes 2013 was that actresses were prepared to take style chances. Not every outfit worked out, but it was worth the risk for many of Hollywood's biggest names. Cherry red was a favored color, while cut-out dresses, black gowns and intricate detailing were in abundance.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is riding high in the US box office charts (way higher than its nearest competitor, Rise of the Guardians) this week and it’s unlikely that will change, though there are at least two releases this weekend that have been causing a stir. Tom Cruise stars in Jack Reacher – the adaptation of the Lee Child novel and This Is 40, the new comedy from Judd Apatow; a sequel to the popular comedy Knocked Up.

Some fans of Lee Child’s novels questioned the decision to cast Tom Cruise in the title role of Jack Reacher. He was, after all, originally on board as a producer only but after reading the script, it seems, he decided he’d like to have a go at starring in the movie too. It looks as though the gamble has just about paid off, as long as you enter the movie theatre with the understanding that what you are about to see is very much A Tom Cruise Movie, with Tom Cruise in standard Tom Cruise “cool and calculating” mode, as described by Betsy Sharkey of Los Angeles Times.

So far, the reviews are just about erring on the side of positive, with an aggregate of 63% on Rotten Tomatoes. Let’s face it, Tom Cruise’s rep has hardly had an easy ride this year and this is hardly challenging new ground for the Mission Impossible star, who has frequented many a steely action thriller of late. However, many reviewers have surmised that really, it’s Cruise that makes this movie. “This is Cruise’s show. And he nails it,” says Peter Travers of Rolling Stone. One for the Cruise fans, then. Wherever you are.

Judd Apatow returns with his new movie This Is 40 this week, a comedy about the trials of marriage, parenthood and being middle aged and is billed as a 'sort of sequel' to 2007's Knocked Up. The director - who once again teams up with Paul Rudd - discussed the origins of the film with the Los Angeles Times.

"I wasn't thinking about making a sequel," Apatow explained, "I just wanted to do a movie about this age and this time of life, so I started making notes about it. And I was thinking about different actors and actresses who could be in it. And then in the middle of the night I just thought, 'I think I'm writing the sequel to Knocked Up, and it should be Pete and Debbie, and Maude and Iris.' Suddenly it made sense." Knocked Up was a runaway hit, scoring both critical acclaim and commercial success. Though it focused mainly on the relationship between Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl's characters, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann were perhaps the most believable characters. "When I'm writing and when we rehearse, Paul and I will sit with Leslie and [Paul's] wife, Julie, and we'll have the 'What is annoying you about each other?" Apatow said of writing the new film, "and a lot of that makes its way into the movie. So I see it more as a bizarre Frankenstein monster of my worst traits and Paul's worst traits, and then Leslie has to deal with that."

'This Is 40' hits theaters in the U.S. on Friday (December 21, 2012).

Awards season kicked off in earnest this week with two major critical bodies - New York Critics and the National Board of Review - both naming the Osama bin Laden raid thriller Zero Dark Thirty as their film of the year. Jessica Chastain stars in the movie, which reunites director Kathryn Bigelow with The Hurt Locker writer Mark Boal. The new trailer promises another exciting, intense military action drama.

Another major awards contender is Tom Hooper's film of the epic musical Les Miserables, with a high-powered cast including Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne and Amanda Seyfried. All of them attended the glitzy red carpet world premiere in London this week. The film opens in America on Christmas Day, and in Britain in early January.

Paul Rudd isn't often associated with words such as 'Grace' or, for that matter, 'tact', with roles in great contemporary-classic comedies such as 'Anchorman', 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall', or in the flop 'Dinner For Schmucks', but it seems that Broadway's 'Grace', in which he's currently starring, is exactly what Rudd needed bring attention to his own grace. Plus, his pairing with Ed Asner (Disney Pixar's 'Up') in this brand new American four person stage-play, that also stars Michael Shannon ('Boardwalk Empire', 'Revolutionary Road') and Kate Arrington (Broadway veteran), certainly seems like a match made in heaven.

'Grace' has been described on Playbill.com: "In alternating scenes of hilarity and poignancy, life turns surreal for an eclectic foursome whose destinies collide in the Sunshine State... A wide-eyed young couple (Rudd & Arrington) head south with big plans to open a chain of Gospel-themed motels. When an agitated rocket scientist (Shannon) and a prickly pest-control man (Asner) enter the picture, the couple's ordered world is thrown into utter chaos."

In response as to whether this 'utter chaos' finds any kind of aesthetic stage value one tweeter said of 'Grace': "It's brilliant. It made me laugh, cry and contemplate grace. Ed Asner is a national treasure." To celebrate the play and its themes, a whole host of special events have been organised around it, included a series of three 'talkback' evenings. October 10th, 17th and 24th will see a variety of speakers from critics, members of the cast as well as members of the clergy meet to discuss themes of the play, focussing particularly on the aspects of faith that it probes.

Paul Rudd, a regular on the hit comedy series 'Friends', has opened up about the sitcoms final weeks of production and how weird they felt for him, having not been part of the series from the start. In 'Friends', Rudd played the character of Mike, the boyfriend and later husband of Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow). He admits that despite his attempts to be supportive to the cast and crew, he never really knew what to say to them.

He explained the end of an era and the emotions of the main cast, by explaining: "It was pretty emotional for them. I was honoured to be in it but there was a lot of crying even during the read through and the taping. I felt as if I absolutely shouldn't be there. It felt as if I was watching somebody bathe. It just wasn't right."
