Peaches Geldof Bob Geldof Paula Yates

The death of Peaches Geldof yesterday has brought on a wave of shock and sadness across social media as people try to come to terms with what was a sudden and unexpected tragedy. At just 25 years old the daughter of Bob Geldof lived a short life which saw her transform from a party girl teen into a devoted wife and mother. Whilst she was born with famous parents, Peaches carved out a career for herself in the media beyond her famous surname, always opinionated and never afraid to express herself, Peaches Geldof was a celebrity whose life encapsulated an often misunderstood generation who were just trying to find themselves.

The second daughter of Live Aid founder Bob Geldof and TV presenter Paula Yates, Peaches was born in the spotlight. Her early life was described as idyllic until her parents separated and her mother tragically died when Peaches was aged just 11. Peaches would say herself in her final interview that she had spent years struggling to know herself and “feeling lost at sea, rudderless and troubled” over her mother's death but that becoming a mother herself had helped heal her.

Peaches Geldof Probed By Police Following Ian Watkins Tweet

Peaches Geldof Lost Prophets

As the Ian Watkins child abuse case came to a swift end this week, the fallout was always going to carry on for a number of weeks. Of all people, Peaches Geldof decided to wade into the debate, naming and shaming the two mothers who were convicted alongside Watkins in the sexual abuse case.

Ian Watkins
Watkins pleaded guilty earlier this week

The Geldof altercation comes after Watkins pleaded guilty to several counts of child abuse on Tuesday, being convicted alongside the two women who are said to have allowed Watkins to carry out his depraved lusts on their children. Obviously, this is an incredibly delicate subject, and as the names of victims of child abuse are always held in anonymity, Peaches' ill-advised rant against the mothers inadvertently made the children's identity all that clearer.

Brand New Baby Boy For Peaches Geldof

Peaches Geldof Bob Geldof

Peaches Geldof, the daughter of poverty activist Bob Geldof, has just given birth to her second child.

According to the BBC website, she and husband Thomas Cohen have decided on the unusual name Phaedra for the baby boy, continuing the tradition started with their firstborn, Astala. Geldof says the couple got the idea for Phaedra from one of their favorite songs Some Velvet Morning by Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra. The song contains the line "Some velvet morning when I'm straight I'm gonna open up your gate and maybe tell you about Phaedra". The word Phaedra also comes from the Greek word for “bright”, so maybe the name will spell good things for the little one. But the Geldof family is one with a long running tradition of peculiar names. Peaches herself has two sisters, named Fifi, 30, and 22-year-old Pixie. She also has a 16-year-old half-sister, named Tiger Lily.

The announcement that Geldof was pregnant came last November. She has previously been married to musician Max Drummey, but the couple separated after just six short months of marriage. Throughout the years, Peaches has stayed largely in the public eye and worked as a presenter and model, sometimes dabbling in writing and being a magazine columnist. She will probably have to take a break after the birth of the little one, however.

In Memory Of Paula: Peaches Geldof Opts For Caesarean Section On Paula Yates' Birthday

Peaches Geldof Paula Yates

Peaches Geldof and Thomas Cohen have welcomed their second child into the world. Their son Phaedra was born on Peaches’ late mother Paula Yates’ birthday and a report from The Sun suggests that Peaches had planned a caesarean section so that the birth took place on the special day. The Sun reported yesterday that Peaches “chose to have a caesarean section on April 24” and added that they had named their second child after an album by Tangerine Dream.

Peaches is the daughter of Paula Yates, the former TV presenter and Boomtown Rats musician Bob Geldof. She was hoping that her first son, Astala, would be born on April 24 last year, but missed the birth date. so opted for a caesarean this time round. Her husband, Tom Cohen, of the band S.C.U.M. was present for the birth and she’s also been visited by her sisters Fifi (30), Pixie (22) and her half sister Tiger Lily (16), whilst in hospital. A source revealed that the procedure had all gone to plan: ““It all went smoothly and Peaches will be in hospital for a while to recuperate… They are particularly pleased about the significance of the date as it makes Peaches feel she is keeping her mum’s memory alive.”

Paula Yates passed away aged 41 in September 2000, when Peaches was 11. She died of a heroin overdose at her home in London.

Announcing the news to Hello! magazine, the daughter of Sir Bob said, "I did have a momentary panic and go, 'Oh my god, we're going to have a one-year-old and a one-month-old! How will we cope? Tom was so supportive and relaxed, it banished my doubts and I started imagining the two boys growing up together as the best of friends. There are massive benefits to having two children so close together." Peaches also revealed that she'd already chosen a name for the baby boy: Phaedra. It comes from an ancient Greek play though is also referenced in one of Peaches and Tom's favourite songs, Some Velvet Morning by Lee Hazlewood.
