British rocker Pete Doherty has confirmed he struck up a romance with actress Charlotte Gainsbourg after they met on the set of their new movie project.
The Babyshambles star appears alongside the Antichrist actress in Confession of a Child of the Century and he admits they became romantically involved while filming together in France.
Doherty reveals he fell for Gainsbourg, daughter of famed musician Serge Gainsbourg and actress Jane Birkin, during the shoot, telling Britain's NME magazine, "(It was) off set. But on set there were these love scenes. The only problem was those love scenes appeared before we actually made love in real life..."
The musician's love affair with Gainsbourg was short-lived and she is now "not talking" to him, while he hints the relationship crumbled after she moved to London to be with him.
He adds, "She left her fella (man) and moved to London... but put it this way, she was back in Paris four days later. I think the lifestyle I was living at the time, she wasn't accustomed to."
Doherty goes on to add that when Gainsbourg came to stay at his home in the English countryside, the house was cold and dark because the electricity had been cut off and he had yet to fix the building's leaky roof.
He adds, "The roof was falling in on my country house so we were sat there in the dark, because the electricity had been cut off, in the cold, buckets around us collecting the falling rain water, burning old (copies of) Nmes to keep warm in the one working fireplace...
"I kept the cover (featuring The Strokes' first appearance). The rest of it was to keep Charlotte's feet warm."
