‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Steven Moffat has joked he would easily beat Peter Capaldi in a test of ‘Doctor Who’ knowledge. Speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Moffat said that although the current Doctor was very knowledgable about the BBC series, he was no match for the showrunner.

Doctor WhoPeter Capaldi is a life-long ‘Doctor Who’ fan.

"His love, we can compete on that, just let it be understood. But in a face-off, in a head-to-head, he's nowhere bloody close. I'm ahead on knowledge. I am. Honestly,” Moffat told the crowd, according to the Radio Times.

“You know that conversation about Mondassian Cybermen? I keep shouting at him ‘the ones with the metal faces WERE ALSO FROM MONDAS! So you now know what an artistic conversation between the showrunner and actors sounds like.”

“He at a certain point thought it would be great to go have some kind of life, dash around Glasgow being handsome and dating women. I thought ‘pfft! Hell with that. I’m gonna collect ‘Doctor Who’ trading cards, and not make eye contact with anybody. And I was right, because I outrank him,” the showrunner added.

Capaldi is known for being a lifelong fan of the show before he landed the gig of the 12th Doctor and as a teenager he even wrote a letter to the Radio Times about the Daleks.

Capaldi will return to BBC One as The Doctor on September 19th. Last month the actor spilled some secrets at Comic Con about what fans can look forward to. “Soaring through all of time and space, series nine sees the Doctor throw himself into life with a new hunger for adventure,” Capaldi said.

“The Cosmos is there for the taking, thrilling, epic and enticing, and his to play in. But he’s almost reckless in his abandon. It’s almost like he’s running from something, something that if it ever catches him will turn his life upside down.”
