Peter Facinelli and Jaimie Alexander have got engaged.

The 'Twilight' star and the 'Thor' actress are set to become husband and wife in the near future after the hunky actor popped the question to his beautiful partner at the top of the Empire State Building in New York City on Monday (16.03.15).

A representative for the couple confirmed to US Magazine that Peter, 41, got down on one knee after they managed to find a brief, overlapping, slot in their busy schedules.

However, a friend of the 31-year-old beauty has admitted Jaimie had a feeling a proposal was on the way.

The source said: ''She knew it was coming but was overwhelmed during the proposal.''

The couple - who met when they worked on the romantic-comedy the 'Loosies' - were first romantically linked in November 2012.

And the brunette stunner confirmed the news a few weeks later when she gushed about her beau and his family in an interview.

She said at the time: ''I know how [the relationship] makes me feel in my heart ... it makes me feel really good. He's a good guy with a great family and I couldn't be any luckier.''

Meanwhile, this isn't the first time Peter has proposed to someone as he was previously married to Jennie Garth from 2001 until he filed for divorce from the actress in 2012.

The former couple have daughters Luca, 17, Lola, 12, and Fiona, eight, together.
