English singer/songwriter, Peter Gabriel, has been honoured at the annual Progressive Music Awards, by being the award for 'Prog God', for his five decade long music career. The event was held at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London, on the 11th of September, 2014.

The third annual Progressive Music Awards were sponsored by Orange Amps and was presented by Scottish author and television presenter, Gavin Esler.

According to the Progressive Music Awards' official website, the award for Prog God is "the ultimate accolade in progressive music today, recognising a master of their craft." Last year's winner was Ian Anderson, the frontman for the band Jethro Tull.

Editor of 'Prog Magazine', Jerry Ewing explained why Gabriel deserved the award, saying: "From a ground breaking eight years with Genesis to a solo career that has now stretched almost 40 years, few artists have striven to push back the creative boundaries, generating a body of work that in its very nature progresses ever onwards. From massive worldwide hits through startling experimentation and pioneering work with world music, as well as his fantastic work outside of music and an astute grasp of technology, it really is an honour to pay tribute to Peter in this way."

Amongst the other winners, were Rick Wakeman who won the 'Live Event' award for his 'Journey To The Centre Of The Earth 40th Anniversary Tour'. Syd Arthur won the award for 'Breakthrough', suggesting that the band is expected to be a great hit in the future. The 'Anthem' award went to 'Anathema' by the band Anathema, and the album 'Kaleidoscope' by Transatlantic won the award for 'Album of the Year'.

Finally, Andy Latimer - one of the founding members of the progressive rock band Camel - was granted the 'Lifetime Achievement' award for his dedication to the progressive rock genre.
