Poor Phil Collins. The former Genesis frontman hasn't made any new music since 2002 and has just recovered from major back surgery, so when he announced he was coming out of retirement last week he probably thought he’d be welcomed back with open arms. But some people are so against the idea of a Collins comeback they've actually launched a petition to stop him.

In an interview with Rolling Stone last week Collins announced his desire to make music again saying, "I'm no longer officially retired. The horse is out of the stable and I'm raring to go.”

"My kids are now 10 and 14 and they want to see what their dad does. They were in nappies when I was last on the road. They love my music and I'd like to take them out so they can enjoy it.”

Collins' last album was 2002’s Testify and he last hit the road for the aptly titled First Farewell Tour. Since then he’s only performed live during a brief Genesis reunion tour in 2007 and released an album of Motown covers titled Going Back in 2010.

He’s now said to be working on a solo album, which he even plans to tour in the future. "I don't think I want a very long tour,” Collins added. "But I would like to play the stadiums in Australia and the Far East, and that's the only way to do that. But there's a part of me that just wants to do theatres, so we'll see.”

But not everyone is happy with the idea of Collins once again making music and playing live. A petition on Change.Org titled “Phil Collins must be stopped” currently has over 800 signatures. ‘Phil Collins has announced he is 'no longer in retirement'.There is far too much suffering in the world as it is.This must be stopped.’ the petition reads, while also asking the UN to intervene and help stop Collins.

One campaign supporter has commented, “You have made plenty of dough and even had a monkey playing drums advert so do the right thing for the people of the UK and get a part time job at B&Q if you need some extra cash.”

While another added, ‘Phil Collins was the bane of my existence in the 80s. I'll be damned if I don't try and save my children from his insidious music!’ So what do you think, are you ready for a Collins comeback? Or were you hoping his retirement would last forever?
