Prince William’s push present to Kate Middleton might be a pink diamond ring, according to the Daily Express. For those not entirely “in the know” on the royals and celebrity culture in general, a push present is something a brand new dad gives his ladylove as a token of appreciation for, well, pushing. Think Kanye West giving Kim Kardashian a tiger diamond, except the Duke of Edinburgh’s rumoured choice of present sounds quite a bit more regal. Whether or not the rumors about the pink diamond turn out to be true, one thing is clear: the prince has invested a lot of thought and effort into the special present.

The birth of Prince Edward was one of the most anticipated events of the year.

“William has been giving this a lot of thought for a long time,” confided a member of his inner circle. “He’s got lots of ideas from studying history of art at university and decided on a pink diamond as a centrepiece because it is pretty and feminine. It will be a thank you present to Kate.”

Such a special occasion deserves a special present.

The pink diamond sounds like a modern, yet still somewhat traditional choice. It’s enough of a departure from the engraved gold medallion that Prince Charles gave Princess Diana back when William was born to feel original and unique to the couple. However, it’s also a nod to the Queen in a way, with the pink diamond referencing the one in Queen Elizabeth II’s own collection.

The Queen’s diamond is one of the finest uncut pink diamonds in the world and was given to her by John Williamson, a Canadian geologist, on the occasion of her marriage to Prince Phillip. The reigning monarch often wears it as a broach she had specially made.

The Queen herself is quite fond of her own pink diamond.
