Having your favourite band play at your birthday party or wedding would be a dream come true for any music fan, but sadly it doesn't come cheap. Business Insider has recently worked with booking agency Celebritytalent.net to publish a list detailing just how much various artists will charge to play a show. If you’re a Prince fan, it’s pretty bad news.

PrincePrince, he's a pricey one

Yes if you’re looking for an intimate performance of ‘Purple Rain’, then you’re going to need some pretty deep products. Prince tops the list of the most expensive artists to book, commanding a massive $2million. Asking for slightly less are rock legends Aerosmith and the Rolling Stones as well as rappers Jay-Z and Usher, Arcade Fire and most surprisingly Nickleback. Yes a private show from Chad Kroeger and co will cost you between $1 and $1.5million.

Commanding just under $1million are modern hit makers such as Adele, Pharrell Williams and Katy Perry. As well as the iconic David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen and former Van Halen singer David Lee Roth, whom we can't help feeling might be slightly over priced. Joining them in the $750,000 to $999,999 bracket also, are Green Day, Eminem and Mariah Carey. But for the same amount you can also hire George Clooney. we not sure what exactly he’ll come round to do but we'd imagine he’d make a pretty entertaining party guest.

Between half a million and $749,999 will get you a performance from Puff Daddy, The Cure, Coldplay or even One Direction. But if a cool $500,000 is your absolute limit then Kanye West, Kings of Leon, Dolly Parton and Susan Boyle might be your best investment. They all charge anywhere between $350,000 to $499,999.

Amazingly, as the prices drop to just over a quarter of a million we find a few artists who really seem to be selling themselves short. Bob Dylan is listed as charging between just $250,000 and $349,999. Granted we don't have the kind of change just lying around, but when you read that it costs over twice as much to book the Black Eyed Peas then Dylan is a bargain! Also on par with Dylan are Queens of the Stone Age, Duran Duran and the Foo Fighters. Yes apparently getting Dave Grohl to leave his friends behind is more expensive than having him bring them along, as a solo performance from the Foos font man costs up to $749,999.

As we drop below the quarter of a million mark there are still some bargains to be had. Arctic Monkeys, Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails all come in below $250,000. While Iggy Pop, Moby and The Hives will cost you under $150,000.

But if you really do want to add some star power to your next gathering and you just can’t go above the $10,000 mark, then don’t despair. Yes it seems even the world of celebrity appearances has a bargain bin. For between $7,500 and $9,999 you can treat yourself to a Joan Rivers look-a-like, a Jack Nicholson one, a fake Robbie Williams or even the real Bam Margera. Now that’s a bargain.
