Prince has decided to grace us with his presence on Twitter. The elusive and technophobic singer, who famously declared in 2010 that the "internet's completely over", has finally decided to join the social networking site. Posting his comments under the name '3rdeyegirl', he named his account for the band who has been accompanying him on his tour this year.

Although Prince initially chose not to control the account himself (presumably allowing representatives to Tweet for him) he took charge on Tuesday (13 August), announcing his presence by writing "PRINCE'S FIRST TWEET. TESTING.1,2."

By "PRINCE'S 3RD TWEET" the 'Purple Rain' singer was adding photographs of his meals, past album covers and queries to fans.

Prior to his decision to tweet himself, the account had over 150 tweets mainly pictures of various gigs around the globe.

Prince, following his first three announced tweets, has since posted a number of other comments and even stopped counting. He has posted a selfie and retweeted a number of his fans - so he's evidently getting into the swing of things.

All rather ironic considering, in an interview with British tabloid The Mirror, Prince claimed the internet was over and merely a fad. Indeed, he continued by saying: "the internet's like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you."
