Prince's Sister Claims He Died Without Leaving A Will

Less than a week after his sudden death that shocked the world, Prince’s sister is moving to become the administrator of the late star’s estate and have the assets distributed because he reportedly left no will.

The Associated Press reports on Tuesday (April 26th) that Tyka Nelson, Prince’s only surviving full sibling, has filed paperwork at a Minneapolis court to name her as special administrator of her brother’s estate with authority to “manage and supervise” its assets, and to determine the identity of any heirs, since he died intestate – i.e. leaving no will.

He had two other siblings – Lorna and Duane Nelson, who died in 2006 and 2011 respectively – and has three other half-siblings. Prince was not married and had no living children, making Tyka Nelson potentially the primary recipient of his entire estate – estimated to be $27 million, with substantial posthumous earnings.

The submission apparently outlines why a special administrator is required, arguing that “substantial assets consisting of personal and real property that requires protection” exist and that he has “heirs whose identities and addresses need to be determined.”

The order has yet to be ruled upon, and the cause of Prince’s death is still under investigation following his passing last Thursday at the age of 57. His body was reportedly discovered in an elevator at his massive Paisley Park home and studio complex in Minnesota.

His body was cremated at a “private, beautiful ceremony” on Saturday, according to E! News, that was filled with his friends and family.

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the investigators are reportedly investigating whether painkillers may have contributed to the star’s death, amid rumours that he had not slept in six days prior to his passing. His private plane had been forced to make an emergency landing the Friday before (April 15th), with Prince said to have been suffering from a “bad bout of flu” and given a shot of Narcan, an opiate-based antidote, before he discharged himself and returned home.
