Queen Latifah insists she lives a normal life and spends most of the time caring for her mother Rita Owen, who has an incurable autoimmune disease.
Queen Latifah doesn't have a ''Hollywood'' lifestyle.
The chat show host insists she leads a simple life and spends a lot of time taking care of her mother Rita Owen - who was diagnosed with scleroderma, an incurable autoimmune disease that may cause scar tissue to build up on the lungs, last year - and taking her to see doctors.
She said: ''There's nothing Hollywood about me when it comes to my family. I didn't hire people. I'm very involved with Mom's care. I talk to the doctors, I talk to the nurses, we discuss the findings, we discuss options.''
She added to People magazine: ''I love that lady. We've gotten so close this year, with everything we've been going through. She takes care of me. And now I can take care of her. I'm really thankful I can be there.''
However, the 44-year-old actress hasn't always maintained a strong outlook on life as she previously admitted she was ''rocked to the core'' when her brother, Lancelot Jr., crashed a motorcycle, which she gave him, and died in 1992.
She said: ''I think I got to that place by not being happy with the other side -- hating your body and criticising yourself all the time. When I was around 18, I looked in the mirror and said, 'You're either going to love yourself or hate yourself.' And I decided to love myself. That changed a lot of things.''
