Moviemaker Quentin Tarantino has branded fellow Hollywood heavyweight Brian De Palma "desperate" for his bid to appeal to mass audiences.
The Pulp Fiction director believes De Palma, whose credits include Scarface and The Untouchables, has failed to match the height of his popularity in the Eighties and early-Nineties with his more recent projects.
And the result has served as a warning to Tarantino, who suffered a U.S. box office flop with Grindhouse earlier this year (07).
He says, "It's tempting, as a jerk reflex, to think about doing something that's more commercial. But doom lies down the road. I watched that happen to Brian De Palma for the last 15 years of his career, chasing his tail after disappointments. There was a desperation about it."
